Bengaluru FC sign Spanish midfielder Pedro Capo from Segunda Division club CD Eldense

Bengaluru FC have announced the signing of Spanish midfielder Pedro Capo, making him their seventh acquisition of the summer. Capo, who has signed a one-year deal with the club, previously played for Spanish second division club CD Eldense.

The 33-year-old, who has spent his entire career in Spain, will replace Keziah Veendorp, who played just one season for the Blues. Capo is a versatile player capable of operating both as a defensive midfielder and a center-back, while he also brings considerable experience to the team.

In an interview with the BFC media after signing the contract, Capo expressed delight and credited his discussion with head coach Gerrard Zaragoza as pivotal in his decision to move to India and join Bengaluru FC.

“I’m really glad to have signed with Bengaluru FC, one of the best clubs in India. The opportunity to come to India presented itself to me a few years ago, but I felt the time was not right. My conversations with Gerard (Zaragoza) have given me a lot of enthusiasm, and a desire to perform and I think now is the right time for me to move to India and live an intense experience,” Capo expressed.

Zaragoza stated his satisfaction with Bengaluru FC completing the signing, emphasizing that Capo’s leadership qualities will play a major role this season.

“Pedro is a player with immense experience in the Spanish Segunda B and one who I am sure will do well for us. He’s a leader on the pitch, and both his previous teams earned promotion to La Liga 2. He’s very good at organizing a team’s defensive shape, and one whose tactical intelligence and physical presence will be crucial to our efforts this season. I’m looking forward to having him join the group," Zaragoza said (via BFC Media).

An overview of Pedro Capo’s career

Born in Mahon, Spain, Pedro Capo began his career with the third division Spanish club Sporting Mahones in 2009. He quickly established himself as a regular starter, making 62 appearances for the club before moving to Celta Vigo B team in the same division.

During his early days, Capo was a regular feature in the Spanish third division, playing for several clubs, including Mallorca B, Atlético Baleares, Arroyo CP, and CE Sabadell, with whom he achieved promotion to the Segunda Division in 2020. Following a season with Sabadell in the second division, the midfielder moved to CD Eldense in 2021, where he amassed 92 appearances and scored three goals over a three-year period.

Capo is expected to primarily feature as a central midfielder at Bengaluru FC but also has the potential to play as both a right and left-sided center-back. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall, he brings physicality to the middle of the park, while his ability to read the game will help the team.

With Capo’s arrival, Bengaluru FC have completed their foreign signings, having secured deals for Edgar Mendez, Jorge Pereyra Diaz, and Alberto Noguera, while also retaining both Aleksandar Jovanovic and Ryan Williams.
