Chennaiyin FC complete signing of Mohun Bagan SG forward Kiyan Nassiri | ISL 2024-25

Chennaiyin FC have announced the arrival of forward Kiyan Nassiri from Mohun Bagan Super Giant following the expiration of his contract with the reigning ISL champions. Nassiri, who has won four trophies with Mohun Bagan, joins the Chennai-based club on a three-year deal.

The son of East Bengal FC legend Jamshid Nassiri, Kiyan began his career at Mohammedan SC before joining arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in 2019. He rose to prominence by scoring a remarkable hat-trick against East Bengal in the 2021-22 ISL season, becoming the youngest player in ISL history to achieve this feat.

Overall, Nassiri has made 68 appearances for Bagan, scoring nine goals and providing two assists. Despite his promising performances, the 23-year-old was often used as a backup due to the number of quality options Bagan had.

Consequently, his move to Chennaiyin FC, who are building a young core, benefits both him and the club, given his potential. Nassiri expressed his delight in joining Chennaiyin FC after signing a contract that will keep him with the club until 2027.

Speaking to CFC media, he said:

"I am extremely excited and grateful to be a part of this amazing sea of blue. Bringing all my humility and respect for the management, coaches and fans. Looking forward to bringing with me, my endless passion for the beautiful game and my spirit to win with and for my team."

We have no doubt he will quickly become a fan favorite - Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle on Kiyan Nassiri

Owen Coyle and Chennaiyin FC continue to make huge strides in the market, with Kiyan Nassiri becoming their sixth signing of the summer. They are clearly focused on building a strong core for the future, and Coyle expressed his confidence that the winger’s talent and potential will make him a standout player for Chennaiyin FC.

"We are excited to welcome Kiyan Nassiri to this great club. When you score a hattrick on your debut against your biggest rivals, it says everything there is to be said. He’s a great boy and we have no doubt he will quickly become a fan favourite," Coyle said.

Versatile in terms of his skill sets, Nassiri can effectively start in various positions, a trait that will be a valuable asset for Chennaiyin. With Ninthoi Meetei set to leave the club, Nassiri could become the first-choice player in the wide position, starting on either the left or right flank.

Ultimately, his energy, pace, and decision-making in the final third will be invaluable to Chennaiyin FC, who struggled in converting their chances last season. Moreover, Coyle’s high-intensity approach aligns well with Kiyan Nassiri’s strengths, promising a bright future for Marina Machans.
