Chennaiyin FC rope in former Jamshedpur FC coach Noel Wilson
Chennaiyin FC have announced the appointment of Noel Wilson as the assistant coach for the first team ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 Indian fooball season.
The 44-year-old will reunite with head coach Owen Coyle and assistant coach Sandy Stewart, who he previously worked with at Jamshedpur FC. The trio together managed the team to its first-ever ISL League Winners’ Shield in 2022.
Noel Wilson will replace Raman Vijayan who left the team after one year at the club. He is understood to have left the club to join the Rathinam Group as the Sporting Director for football.
Speaking about his new role, Wilson expressed delight in a club statement:
“It’s always an honour and privilege to be a part of Chennaiyin FC. A club which has won 2 ISL Championship and other achievements. I am looking forward to working with Chennaiyin FC to achieve the goal of the club to win games and trophies.”
Apart from his stint with the Jamshedpur FC first team, Wilson has also served as the head coach of Jamshedpur FC’s reserve team as well as the head coach of South United FC and Ozone FC.
Wilson also represent India on several occasions, with one notable mention being the 1999 South Asian Games, which saw India win bronze. He has also represented notable clubs like Mohun Bagan, Churchill Brothers and Mohammedan SC.
Chennaiyin FC Transfers 24/25
Chennaiyin FC have been among the most active teams so far in the transfer window. The team parted ways with foreigners Cristian Battocchio, Jordan Murray and Rafael Crivellaro, replacing them with Wilmar Jordan Gil, Elsinho and Daniel Chima Chukwu. The team is also likely to replace Lazar Cirkovic and is reportedly already in talks with a South American midfielder.
The team has also parted ways with goalkeepers Debjit Majumder and Devansh Dabas while Aakash Sangwan too has left the team. The team has already brought in reinforcements in Jitendra Singh and PC Laldinpuia, with more expected to be announced soon.
