Chennaiyin FC sign defender PC Laldinpuia on a three-year deal

Two-time Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC have completed the signing of Indian defender PC Laldinpuia on a three-year deal. The deal will keep him at the club until the end of the 2027 season.

The 27-year-old player started his career with Chhinga Veng FC and joined I-League club Aizawl FC in the 2020-21 season. He made 10 appearances and scored a goal, having scored his only goal of the season in a 2-1 winning cost against NEROCA FC.

The center-back then moved to Indian Super League outfit Jamshedpur FC and served the club for three years. The Indian defender played 36 matches in the Indian top-tier league and three matches in the Kalinga Super Cup over the years.

Laldinpuia scored his only goal in the Indian Super League against Chennaiyin FC in the 2023-24 edition of the league.

Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle was elated to reunite with Laldinpuia, who played under the guidance of Coyle at Jamshedpur FC.

"In Laldinpuia we have got an incredible center back on the back of a great season on our hands. I have worked with him briefly and I'm confident he will be well loved amongst the squad," head coach Coyle said in a press release.

PC Laldinpuia was also excited to join Chennaiyin FC and work under the guidance of Coyle once again.

"When they told me that they were interested in me, I was very excited to join the club. A big team and the coach is also a good coach, I know his system and all so I can play under him," Laldinpuia expressed excitement about joining Chennaiyin.

When was the last time Chennaiyin FC won the ISL?

Chennaiyin FC first won the ISL trophy in the 2015 edition of the tournament. The second time the Marina Machans lifted the ISL trophy was during the Indian Super League 2017-18.

The two-time ISL champions haven't won a trophy for the last six years and will look to end the long-wait in the 11th edition of the competition.
