"Had no doubts about extending at Mumbai City" - Lallianzuala Chhangte after penning new deal
On Thursday (June 27), there were a lot of speculations when Lallianzuala Chhangte was spotted outside the Kolkata airport. Some media reports even suggested that the prolific winger was all set to follow Apuia's footsteps to Mohun Bagan. However, on Friday, Mumbai City FC have sprinkled crystal water on all the speculations and have announced Chhangte's new contract extension.
This new deal will see Lallianzuala Chhangte ply his trade at the Islanders until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. The 26-year-old winger had initially joined Mumbai City FC on loan from Chennaiyin FC in 2022's January window. Following the loan stint, the management decided to permanently sign Chhangte and slowly he became a household name among the fans.
After signing his extension at Mumbai City FC, Chhangte said in a statement:
"I had no doubts in my mind about extending my stay with Mumbai City FC for the upcoming seasons. The fans are immense, and so is the family at the club. I am grateful to God that we have been able to repay that love with good football and trophies. There are many more stories to tell over the next few years, and I hope to be the best version of myself every day for my Mumbai City FC family."
Head coach Petr Kratky, who has quite an admiration for his most-trusted lieutenant, said:
"What Chhangte is capable of on the field is well-documented, and I am very glad he is staying. I hope that he not only continues to be the force that he is but also goes on to achieve greater glory for himself and the club. He is a brilliant footballer, and I wish him the very best for the future. I hope he continues to mesmerize the fans in every game."
Mumbai City FC's preparations for upcoming season
Mumbai City FC saw a certain change in their team when skipper Rahul Bheke along with foreigners Alberto Noguera and Jorge Pereyra Diaz left the outfit to join Bengaluru FC. Moreover, a few days back, Petr Kratky's midfield general Apuia too, departed to set sail on a new journey at Mohun Bagan.
Petr Kratky loves playing with Indians and he has proved that in the past season as well. For the upcoming season, the Islanders have extended the stay of Tiri, Valpuia and Jayesh Rane and added players like Brandon Fernandes, TP Rehenesh, French midfielder Jeremy Manzorro, and winger Noufal PN to the contingent.
