"Happy to reunite with Sergio Lobera" - Hugo Boumous after signing for Odisha FC

The last few months in Hugo Boumous' career wasn't worth highlighting. He was at Mohun Bagan and after the Mariners registered Joni Kauko for the Indian Super League, Boumous was deregistered. He has now signed for Odisha FC on a three-year deal, which will keep him at the club till the end of the 2026-27 season.

Notably, Boumous has once again reunited with his former head coach Sergio Lobera, with whom he has previously worked at Mumbai City FC and FC Goa.

After penning the contract at Odisha FC, Hugo Boumous said in a statement:

"I am excited to join Odisha FC for the next 3 seasons. A growing club with an ambitious project where I will look to bring value to the team. I'm happy to reunite with Sergio Lobera, a coach with whom I had a lot of success in the past. Looking forward to meeting my teammates and everyone in Odisha to get ready for the new season. Special thanks to the owner (Mr. Rohan Sharma) and the president (Mr. Raj Athwal) for their confidence.”

Head coach Sergio Lobera, who seemed delighted to reunite with his former student, said:

“In my opinion, Boumous is the best player in the league (ISL) in his position. We know each other very well and we know that we need each other to be successful, I hope we can be successful together again. I am delighted that he has decided to join us.”

Notably, the reunion with Sergio Lobera isn't the only one happening. Boumous will be once again playing together with Mourtada Fall, Ahmed Jahouh and Amey Ranawade, with whom she shared the dressing room at FC Goa and Mumbai City FC.

Club President Raj Athwal also welcomed Boumous to the club, saying:
