ISL 2024-25: East Bengal part ways with Mobashir Rahman

After spending two seasons at East Bengal, midfielder Mobashir Rahman has parted ways with the club. The 26-year-old joined the Kolkata giants from Jamshedpur FC on a three-year deal in 20222. He still had a year left in his contract but decided to find himself a new destination as he didn't receive enough playing time in the previous season.

As per reports emerging in the media, Rahman is expected to return to his former club Jamshedpur FC. In the 2023-24 season, he played only seven minutes in the ISL for East Bengal apart from a few more minutes in the Durand Cup. He was then loaned out to Chennaiyin FC, where he received a better game time.

However, Mobashir Rahman is a bright talent and his transfer to East Bengal back in 2022 garnered a lot of praise from the fans. He clocked a total of 1141 minutes in 19 appearances across three major competitions that season (ISL, Super Cup, and Durand Cup).

East Bengal's preparations for this season

Although East Bengal have almost completed their team building, head coach Carles Cuadrat has suggested that there will be a few more additions to the squad. After the transfer window opened a few weeks back, the club started making high-voltage announcements.

New players like Dimitrios Diamantakos and Madih Talal have joined the side and are currently waiting for their visas to be issued. Among the other foreigners, Cleiton Silva and Saul Crespo have already started training with the side on July 3, the first day of training. Hijazi Maher, whose contract was also renewed by East Bengal, is expected to arrive soon after the completion of the visa requirements.

East Bengal have added young Indian players to the side as well. Some prominent names are David Lalhlansanga (the top scorer of the Durand Cup) and Mark Zothanpuia (a versatile player who can play both as a defensive midfielder and a left-back).

The Kolkata outfit are expected to take part in the Durand Cup before taking the pitch for the AFC Champions League Two fixture against Altyn Asyr on August 14.
