ISL 2024-25: Mumbai City FC rope in defender Sahil Panwar

Mumbai City FC have bolstered their squad by adding 24-year-old defender Sahil Panwar to their ranks. The Islanders' defence saw a few changes this season as skipper Rahul Bheke left for his former club Bengaluru FC. To fill the void left by Bheke, the Mumbai City FC think tank have chosen to sign young Panwar.

Sahil Panwar's footballing journey began when he impressed Pune FC scouts in the prestigious Subroto Cup, a competition that has been a stage for many young Indian footballers.

Later, he joined FC Pune City and went on to register his Indian Super League debut for the side in 2018. The defender has also played for clubs like Hyderabad FC and Odisha FC in his career and now has a fresh opportunity to showcase his class to the Islanders' faithful.

After penning a contract with Mumbai City FC, Sahil Panwar said in a statement:

"I am thrilled to join Mumbai City FC, a club with a rich history and strong ambitions that it fulfills season after season. I am grateful for the opportunity provided to me, and I am committed to working hard to contribute to the club’s success. I look forward to meeting my new teammates, Coach Petr Kratky, and the amazing fanbase of the club.”

Mumbai City FC head coach Petr Kratky welcomed Panwar, saying:

“Sahil Panwar has been one of the most consistent defenders in the league for a while. His valuable experience and abilities will help us reach our goals. We have seen him play, and his qualities at the back will be crucial for us next season. We look forward to having him here and working with him.”

Mumbai City FC's preparations for this season

After the departure of a few top-notch key players like Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Alberto Noguera and Rahul Bheke, Mumbai City FC brought in apt replacements.

They have till date signed players like Brandon Fernandes (from FC Goa), midfielder Jeremy Manzorro, former Arsenal player Jon Toral and Greek striker Nikolaos Karelis as well as TP Rehenesh, Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Noufal PN.

The club has also extended the contracts of Lallianzuala Chhangte, Jayesh Rane, Tiri and Valpuia.
