ISL: Debjit Majumder reunites with East Bengal

East Bengal have brought back their former goalkeeper Debjit Majumder on a two-year contract, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025-26 season. Debjit Majumder is notably a former Indian Super League winner and has previously represented East Bengal in the 2011-12 and 2021-22 seasons.

After penning the deal with East Bengal, Debjit Majumder said in a statement:

“It’s a homecoming for me because East Bengal was the first big club of my career. I would like to thank Coach Cuadrat and the Emami East Bengal management for showing faith in me. I’ve seen and I understand the emotions associated with this great club. I would like to tell the fans that I’ll leave no stone unturned to take this club to greater heights. Our fans are our biggest inspiration."

Head coach Carles Cuadrat has previously observed Majumder's heroics in between the sticks ever since he arrived in India. The Spaniard commented on the signing:

"Debjit has been a highly experienced goalkeeper in the ISL and the I-League. I know him from my early years in India, around 2016, and since then he has been performing with solidity and a great personality. His work-rate will add more value to our goalkeeping department and strengthen our defensive levels."

East Bengal's preparations for this season

East Bengal have made some strong signings heading into the upcoming season. They have already roped in last Indian Super League's Golden Boot winner Dimitrios Diamantakos and top assist-provider Madih Talal on two-year deals. Moreover, they have acquired the services of young midfielder cum left-back Mark Zothanpuia, versatile forward David Lalhlansanga and defender Provat Lakra.

The management is expected to add at least three more signings to the contingent. One of them is a foreigner who will be a centre-back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder. The other positions are expected to be an Indian defensive midfielder (as per reports the club is linked with Jeakson Singh) and a defender (reports suggest it is Alex Saji).
