ISL: East Bengal sign striker Dimitrios Diamantakos on 2-year contract

East Bengal have announced their first summer window acquisition in the form of Greek forward and ISL 2023-24 Golden Boot winner Dimitrios Diamantakos. The forward, who scored 13 goals last term, has joined the Red & Gold Brigade on a two-year contract, which will see him ply his trade for the club till 2026.

A few days back, East Bengal announced the retention of Spanish midfielder Saul Crespo and as per reports, they have also extended the contract of defender Hijazi Maher. Thus, East Bengal fans who are yet taste success in the ISL can expect a solid foreign contingent this time out.

Speaking on the new acquisition, East Bengal head coach Carles Cuadrat said in a statement:

“Diamantakos’ adaptation to India and the ISL has been remarkable and his inclusion will massively bolster our attack. We had a fruitful conversation with him, which convinced him to join us. He had offers from various clubs, but he believed in our project and chose to join Emami East Bengal.”

Dimitrios Diamantakos, who first came to India to play for Kerala Blasters in 2022, has scored 23 goals in 37 appearances in the Indian Super League. Now, with a new challenge ahead, Diamantakos is looking forward to bringing joy to the East Bengal fans.

“Everyone knows that East Bengal has one of the greatest fan bases in Asia. I can’t wait to play in front of them. I will do my best to help my team achieve our goals and bring joy to our supporters. See you in Kolkata!” he said.

East Bengal's preparations for the upcoming season

East Bengal announced the extension of Saul Crespo a few days back and have now roped in Dimitrios Diamantakos. If reports are to be believed, then the management has also secured the signature of Madih Talal, who was the most influential chance-creator last season, having provided 10 assists across 22 appearances in the ISL.

East Bengal have reportedly signed a few Indian players too, including a senior player like Debjit Majumder and young prodigy Mark Zothanpuia.
