ISL: FC Goa extend stay of goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh
FC Goa announced a contract extension for their first-choice goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh on Wednesday, June 26. Singh had signed for the Gaurs back in 2022 and his renewal will see him stay at the club till the end of the 2025-26 season.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper had put out stellar performances under the sticks for Goa over the past two seasons. In the 2023-24 ISL season, Singh made 15 appearances in total for FC Goa. He registered a total of seven clean sheets in the process.
After signing the contract extension, Arshdeep Singh said in an official release:
“I am incredibly grateful to FC Goa for the faith they have shown in me. My time here has been immensely rewarding, and I am excited to continue this journey with the Club. The support from the fans and the team has been fantastic, and I look forward to contributing more to the team in the coming years.”
Commenting on his renewal, head coach Manolo Marquez stated:
“Arshdeep is an excellent fit for our playing style. His composure and skill with the ball at his feet make him an important part of our team. With his experience in the ISL and the ideal age, he doesn’t just excel as a goalkeeper but can also initiate our build-ups from the back during attack."
He added, "Extending his contract is a significant step in our long-term plans, and I am confident that he will continue to play a key role in our pursuit of success," he added.
FC Goa's preparations for the upcoming season
After a positive start to their ISL 2023-24 campaign, FC Goa missed out on the ISL Shield, as they lost momentum in the second half of the season. They failed to outwit Mumbai City FC to reach the final of the top-tier competition.
This year, however, Goa are gearing up to secure the trophy for their fans. They have already roped in I-League 2023-24's best defender Muhammad Hammad and ISL's promising left-back Aakash Sangwan. Moreover, they have also roped in goalkeeper Lara Sharma from Bengaluru FC.
Among the foreign contingent, they have retained the services of Odei Onaindia and will look to add more superpowers before the conclusion of the transfer window.
Among the contract extensions, the club has added more years to the likes of Jay Gupta and Muhammed Nemil.
