Pro Kabaddi: Fit again Wazir Singh given greater responsibility for Puneri Paltan
Puneri Paltan have received a major boost in their faltering bid to qualify for the semi-finals with captain Wazir Singh being declared fit for the Paltan’s game against in-form Telugu Titans side in Hyderabad later today.
Wazir Singh missed his side’s last game against the Jaipur Pink Panthers and had to see his side slump to another defeat from the stands. Wazir, who was suffering from a minor shoulder injury, wasn’t risked for the game against the Champions as it was Pune’s second game in as many days.
“Wazir had a shoulder injury and we were playing for the second day in a row, so we decided not to risk him. But now he had a decent break and he has recovered completely to face the Titans,” the Puneri Paltan Team Manager, Kailash Kandpal said ahead of tonight’s game.
Wazir Singh’s return to fitness will come as a major boost for the Puneri Paltan side who need to win virtually every game to qualify for the semi-finals from here. Wazir is 9th on the Pro Kabaddi Raiders Leaderboard with 30 successful raids this season.
But despite Wazir’s heroics in the opponent half, Puneri Paltan have succumbed to defeats from winning positions and that has called the team management to levy an added responsibility on the skipper.
“Wazir needs to control the team better. We have been throwing it away in matches and it’s important that Wazir calms the team down and gets them focused in tight situation. So we have had a word with him and he has taken up the mantle of fulfilling this responsibility”, Kailash Kandpal said.
A completely fit Wazir Singh is different phenomenon for the opponent defenders to deal with and the Telugu Titans will be vary of Puneri Paltan’s skipper as well as the in-form Pravin Niwale.
If the duo gets on song today, the home side is in for a surprise today.
