"Just like Chahal was removed from RCB, I was removed from Bengaluru Bulls"- Pawan Sehrawat says he still does not know why Bulls released him in PKL
Telugu Titans captain Pawan Sehrawat has disclosed that he is not aware why his former team Bengaluru Bulls released him before Pro Kabaddi League season nine. Pawan was the team's best raider in three consecutive seasons. Still, the Bulls decided to release him.
During an appearance on Figuring Out With Raj Shamani, Pawan Sehrawat spoke about his PKL stint with Bengaluru Bulls. He was the best raider when the Bulls won their only title in season six.
In the next two seasons, Pawan performed brilliantly, but the team could not win the trophy. Before the ninth season, Bulls shockingly released Pawan and did not re-sign him at the auction.
When asked about the reason why Bulls let him go, Pawan said:
"I don't know what happened in season nine. I don't know how things changed. I came in the auction. Bengaluru Bulls did not retain me."
"I think someone misguided the coach that Pawan has become the biggest name. I think someone must have told him told this. In seasons seven and eight, coach sir called me and told me I was being retained," he added.
Pawan then compared his situation with that of former Royal Challengers Bengaluru leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and added:
"I was waiting for the phone call in season nine. However, no one called. Just like Chahal was removed from RCB, I was removed from Bengaluru Bulls. No one asked me if I want to be retained."
"My biggest fanbase is in Bengaluru"- Pawan Sehrawat says he wanted to play for Bulls but the team did not want him
In the same episode, Pawan Sehrawat revealed that 60 percent of his Instagram followers were from Bengaluru. Having played five PKL seasons for the Bengaluru Bulls, he became attached to the team and the city, but the team management did not want him in the squad.
"I wanted to play for Bengaluru. My biggest fanbase is in Bengaluru. I have 1 million followers, and 600,000 are from Bengaluru. Bengaluru is my everything. I got famous because of Bengaluru Bulls team. Till date, I don't know why I was removed from the team," Pawan added.
"One or two times I subtly tried to tell the coach that you could have retained me for season nine. He ignores it. He has not told me yet. I feel bad. I loved playing for Bengaluru. It had become like a family," he concluded.
Two days ago, Pawan Sehrawat led his team Telugu Titans to a victory against the Bengaluru Bulls in the PKL 11 season opener. Pawan destroyed the Bulls defense by scoring 13 raid points.
