Pro Kabaddi 2024: "It's a foolish move"- Mohit Chhillar slams Puneri Paltan's ex-coach BC Ramesh for stepping away after team's poor show
Former Pro Kabaddi League champion Mohit Chhillar has lashed out at BC Ramesh for stepping away from Puneri Paltan head coach's position after the team's poor performance. Chhillar cited the example of teams like Bengaluru Bulls, Gujarat Giants and Bengal Warriorz, showing how those teams' coaches did not run away from their responsibilities.
Last night, Puneri Paltan dropped a bombshell on Instagram when they announced that their head coach BC Ramesh is stepping away from his position. Ramesh, who guided Pune to their first title in PKL 10, has now joined the franchise's advisory team.
The announcement came a day after Puneri Paltan suffered an embarrassing 29-43 loss against arch-rivals U Mumba in their first PKL 11 match in front of home fans. Reacting to the development, Mohit Chhillar said on Khel Now TV:
"A coach should never lose hope. So what if the team is losing? Look at Bengal, look at Gujarat, look at Bengaluru Bulls. Did their coaches resign? These 3 teams are at the bottom of the points table. If the team is losing, you can change your strategies and improve. You cannot run away from the coach's role by giving your resignation. It's a foolish move."
It is pertinent to note that Puneri Paltan are seventh in the standings right now. They still have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
Who will replace BC Ramesh as head coach of Puneri Paltan?
While Puneri Paltan announced that BC Ramesh will no longer be their head coach, the defending champions have not announced his successor yet. Jeeva Kumar and Rohit Kumar are the assistant coaches of Pune. It is likely that one of the two players will take up the role of the head coach for the remainder of the season.
Pune have won seven out of their 16 matches in PKL 2024 so far. Their next match is against UP Yoddhas on December 7. It will be interesting to see if Pune announce a new head coach by that time.
