Pardeep Narwal breaks Pro Kabaddi League record to become highest raid point scorer in a match
What’s the story?
He huffed, he puffed, and he barged his way to the record books! Pardeep Narwal was on unstoppable form at the NSCI Stadium in Mumbai, on Monday, as he racked-up 34 points in Patna Pirates’ 69-30 demolition of Haryana Steelers in the second Eliminator of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5.
In case you didn’t know…
The record for the most number of points has already been broken twice during the group stages, this season. Rishank Devadiga of the UP Yoddha was the first person to break the record this season, as he notched up 28 raid points against the Jaipur Pink Panthers.
However, his record did not stand for too long, as Bengaluru Bulls’ captain Rohit Kumar broke that record with 30 raid points, ironically, against the UP Yoddha.
Heart of the matter
Pardeep Narwal was on a different level on the night, as he terrorized the Haryana defence. His performance helped Patna end their four match losing streak, as the defending champions romped home to a win.
On one particuler occasion, Pardeep even managed to get an eight point raid, getting six touched, and inflicting an All Out on Haryana. You can watch this Super Raid here.
While Patna were on a poor streak in the last few games of the group stages, Pardeep has stepped up to the plate at the correct moment, to take his side into the third eliminator.
What’s next?
With this win, the Patna Pirates have made their way into the third eliminator of the playoffs, the winner of which, will get a shot at making it to the final of the Pro Kabaddi league.
Pardeep will look to continue his good form on the mat tomorrow as well, as the Patna Pirates go looking for a spot in the qualifiers.
Author’s take:
With this performance, Pardeep has shown that he is completely capable of stepping up to the plate, when it matters the most. Patna were on a bad run before this game, but the captain knew exactly when to get the act right. Being the leader of the side, Pardeep has undoubtedly been able to instill more confidence in his teammates, in the most crucial stage of the tournament.
