Pro Kabaddi 2016, Season 4: Team of the Kolkata Leg

Rahul Chaudhari was again impressive for the Telugu Titans

Kolkata hosted the sixth leg of Season 4 of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi (PKL) at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. In these four days, Patna Pirates regained their top spot while Bengal Warriors moved out of the bottom, but unfortunately, also out of the contention of the play-off spot.

There were plenty of memorable performances in the leg that don’t fade away. Let’s take a look at 7 of the best individuals in the 4-day action-packed Kolkata leg that form the team of the week:

Rahul Chaudhari (Telugu Titans) – Raider

The Telugu Titans captain led his team from the front as the team in yellow moved to second spot in the table. In 2 matches, Rahul scored a mammoth 24 points, with 22 of them coming through his raids. He scored 8 raid points in a draw vs the home team but saved his best for Dabang Delhi. He put the Eagles to the sword with a 16-point haul as they ended the leg with a 36-28 win.

Jang Kun Lee (Bengal Warriors) – Raider

Fan favourite Jang Kun Lee displayed sensational raiding ability at his adopted home with a total of 37 points in 4 matches. He started with a bang by scoring 13 points to help his team beat Jaipur while managing 7 in a 27-33 loss vs the league leaders. With a mammoth 13-point return against the Titans, he helped the team close out a draw, but was helpless in the loss against the Bulls.

Ashish Kumar (Bengaluru Bulls) – All-rounder

After a disappointing home leg where the Bulls lost all four matches and bowed out of contention, Ashish Kumar would have been forgiven for not giving his best. However, the young all-rounder rose above all the negativity and gave a perfect display on both ends of the court. With 4 raid points and 3 in defence, which also included a super tackle, he led the team to a narrow 27-25 win over the home side.

Sandeep Narwal (Telugu Titans) – All-rounder

Former Patna Pirates star Sandeep Narwaldisplayed his prowess in both the boxes in the city of joy - Kolkata - with 11 points in 2 matches. First up was the raider Sandeep that scored 4 points in attack and half of that in defence in a 34-34 draw vs the home team. Next came the strong and dependable 23-year-old, who amassed 4 tackle points vs DabangDelhi while also contributing a point through his raid.

Jasmer Singh Gulia (Telugu Titans) – All-rounder

Another player who starred in Kolkata from the Telugu Titans’ squad was the experienced Jasmer Singh Gulia. A knock prevented him from playing in the first match, but he returned spectacularly to complete a super 5 against the Eagles. The former Dabang Delhi all-rounder, was rock solid at the back as he negated the raids of KashilingAdake and Selvamani K with ease.

Fazel Atrachali (Patna Pirates) – Left Corner

Fazel was a high-profile buy at the auction ahead of Season 4 and in Kolkata, he showed why the defending champions decided to splash the cash on him. After scoring 3 tackle points vs U Mumba, the Iranian single-handedly destroyed any dreams of a Bengal Warriors comeback with back-to-back super tackles on Lee. He ended the second match with 7 defence points and won many admirers.

Dharmaraj Cheralathan (Patna Pirates) – Right Corner

He may be 41 years old, but Dharmaraj Cheralathan is one of the fittest players in the PKL circuit currently. The former Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls player showed his quality vs U Mumba by amassing 7 points in defence. He ably supported Fazel in the 33-27 win against the home team by contributing with 3 defensive points. Chera, as he is fondly called, displayed true leadership qualities in Kolkata.
