Pro Kabaddi 2017 Final: Patna Pirates' Pardeep Narwal shatters record for most points in a PKL season
What's the story?
Raiding sensation Pardeep Narwal smashed another Pro Kabaddi record by amassing 369 points from 26 matches with a stunning average of 14.19 points per game. This season, Pardeep recorded all his points in the form of raid points, heightening his achievement.
In case you didn't know
Ahead of Pardeep's feat this season, U Mumba skipper Anup Kumar held the record for most number of points in a season when he picked up 169 points from the inaugural season.
As a matter of fact, Pardeep emerged as the top point scorer in season three but had only 121 points when compared to a whopping 369 points this season.
At the end of season four, Pardeep Narwal was also awarded the 'Most Valuable Player of the season' award for his terrific raiding and also for having led the Patna Pirates to a title victory.
The heart of the matter
Before this game, Pardeep had also etched his name in the record books for the most number of raid points in a single game, when he picked up 34 points against the Haryana Steelers which included a historical 8-point raid that wiped the whole of the Haryana defence in one raid.
Right through the season, Pardeep was in stunning form and with another Super-10 in the finals, Pardeep took his Super-10 tally to 19 from 26 encounters.
With a knack for picking up points in heaps, Pardeep employed his trademark 'Dubki' to excellent effect while also taking up the 'Do or Die' raid responsibilities on many occasions, single-handedly taking Patna to victories this season.
Author's take
For three seasons now, Pardeep Narwal has been nothing but a sensational raider. The 20-year old has led the Pirates to title victories and has performed beyond expectations, making life difficult for the best of defenders with his agility and a wide array of skills.
Given his skill, it's no surprise that he holds a plethora of records to his name and added one more feather to his cap this season. If this season is anything to go by, PardeepĀ is sure to break more records with seasons to come.
