Pro Kabaddi League: 2 teams which have won the PKL title 2 or more times ft. Patna Pirates
The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is all set for its 11th season. Having won the previous season, Puneri Paltan are the defending champions this time around. Along with the Paltan, six other teams have won the title at least once in the history of the league.
However, there are only two teams in the history of the PKL, throughout the 10 seasons so far, which have won the trophy two or more times. These are the most successful teams in the league and have asserted their dominance, creating an incredible legacy.
Here, we will take a look at the two teams that have won the title two or more times in PKL history.
#1 Jaipur Pink Panthers - PKL Season 1 and Season 9 winners
Jaipur Pink Panthers have won the Pro Kabaddi League two times, making them the second-most successful team in the history of the league. They created history by becoming the first-ever team to win the Pro Kabaddi trophy when they were crowned champions in the inaugural edition.
They beat U Mumba 35-24 in the final of Season 1 to win the title under the captaincy of Navneet Gautam.
However, the Pink Panthers had to wait for a long time before they could lay hands on the coveted trophy once again. Nonetheless, their wait paid off as they bagged the title for the second time in Season 9. This time around, they defeated Puneri Paltan in the final, with the scoreline reading 33-29 in their favor. Come Season 11, they will be eyeing their third trophy.
#2 Patna Pirates - PKL Season 3, 4, 5 winners
Patna Pirates are the most successful team in the history of Pro Kabaddi. They are the only team that has won the title not once, not twice, but for a record three times. Moreover, they achieved this feat in grand fashion, making it a hat-trick of titles from Seasons 3 to 5.
Patna Pirates first won the title back in Season 3, when they beat U Mumba in the final (31-28), with Manpreet Singh leading the side. They became the only team in the history of the league to successfully defend their title, winning the trophy once again in Season 4. This time around, they defeated the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the final, with the scoreline reading 37-29.
Come Season 5, they created history by winning the title for a record third time, making it three back-to-back titles with another thumping win in the final. With Pardeep Narwal leading the side, the Pirates beat Gujarat Giants in what was a commanding victory (55-38).
To date, they remain the only team with three titles and the only team to register a hat-trick of titles.
