The Gujarat Fortunegiants enjoyed an easy evening out in their second and final outing of the Chennai leg of the Pro Kabaddi League 2017 Season 5 as they hammered a hapless Dabang Delhi side 42-22.

With their defence already well established as one of the best in the tournament, the raiders had a chance to stretch their legs out against a miserable Dabang defence. “I’m very happy with the win. People have said that our defence is very strong. Our raiders proved that they are as good as our defence”, said Gujarat coach Manpreet Singh.

Captain Sukesh Hegde was rested for the second straight game as Fazel Atrachali led the side out. Sachin and emerging star Chandran Ranjit had a field day, both feasting on the Dabangs as they picked up 11 and 9 points respectively.

Manpreet lauds Ranjit

Ranjit mentioned that the coach “allows me to play freely and doesn't scold” as the reason for his confident performances.

Coach Manpreet continued to be effusive in his praise of the raider.

“I have known Ranjit for 5 years. I am from ONGC and we go to play tournaments all over India. We have come to Tamil Nadu as well for many tournaments and every time this boy plays well against us”, said Manpreet, adding, “I think he's going to have a very good career.”

He also revealed why he doesn't scold players.

“Back in my time, coaches used to be harsh. I have been scolded as well as beaten by my coaches for making mistakes. But now the trend has changed. The more we treat players with love, the more they play well.”, chimed Manpreet.

Manpreet acknowledges Pune threat

Gujarat consolidated their position at the top of the Zone A with 67 points, with six games more to come. Puneri Paltan are currently third with 10 points less, but have only played 14 games and have a home leg to come. Manpreet acknowledged their threat.

“The Paltan are the only team who can stop us from topping the table. We have 6 matches left out of which two are against them. It is going to be very close. Both teams could finish with the same points as well in which case other factors will come into consideration. We have already played them once and beat them by a big margin in that game. We hope to continue that run”, hoped Manpreet.
