Pro Kabaddi League Season 5: Rohit Kumar breaks Rishank Devadiga's historic record, scores highest raid points in PKL history
What’s the story?
It has only been a few days since the record for the most number of raid points scored in a single Pro Kabaddi match was set by Rishank Devadiga, of the UP Yoddha. Now however, the UP raider’s record has been completely shattered by Bengaluru Bulls captain Rohit Kumar. As fate would have it, Rohit scored these historic 30 raid points against UP Yoddha, in the the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5 match, at the Balewadi Stadium Complex, in Pune, on Tuesday. Bengaluru Bulls earned a massive fabulous 64-24 win over the UP Yoddha.
In case you didn’t know…
Bengaluru Bulls captain Rohit Kumar’s effort was in vain, as the Bengaluru Bulls had already failed to make it to the playoff spots. However, they will take pride in having given the UP Yoddha a real run for their money, in their race to the playoff spots.
What makes this feat even sweeter, is the fact that they have deaten UP raider Rishank Devadiga’s record, a record that was set only last week.
Heart of the matter
The Bengaluru Bulls produced a fine display in the game, earning a massive 40-point victory. This performance was only made possible due to the stupendous form that their captain Rohit Kumar is currently in.
Rohit managed to break the previous record of the highest number of raid points scored in a single match – 28 by Rishank Devadiga. Devadiga’s record did not stand for too long, however, as just a week after he achieved this feat, Rohit scored 30 raid points, to topple him.
This not the end of Rohit’s performance, however. Rohit, who is primarily known to be a raider, helped showed that he is a team man, and helped his side out in defence as well, notching up two tackle points during the match.
What’s next?
With Bengaluru’s season all but over, there is little they can do now, other than merely reflect on what might have been, had their captain showed such devastating form, earlier in the season. Its back to the drawing board for them, as they look to build a strong team for the next season of PKL.
Author’s take:
It was as thrilling as ever to see the same record being broken twice in as many weeks. Things like this rarely occur in such frequency in sports. However, we have been lucky to witness such great feet being achieved not once, but twice in the span of just a few days, something that all kabaddi fans would love to see again.
How long will it take for Rohit Kumar’s record to be broken? Well, we don’t not presume to know the future, but let’s hope another raider raises to the challenge and gives us a fascinating show not too far in the future.
