Pro Kabaddi League Season 5: Star raider Rohit Kumar all set to return in auction
What’s the story?
Star raider Rohit Kumar, after a lengthy layoff from the sport, will return to kabaddi and will be a part of the auction for the Pro Kabaddi League’s fifth season. There was a lot of uncertainty regarding the former Patna Pirates and Bengaluru Bulls man after he was arrested by the police last year following his wife’s death.
However, he is all set to be a part of season five after he confirmed that he will be a part of Monday’s auction through his Instagram account. In a live video, he was interacting with his fans while in a swimming pool, when he was asked in the comments section about his future.
The 27-year-old confirmed his participation in the auction and said in the video that he is happy to return and is looking forward to playing.
In case you didn’t know
Rohit was not a part of the first two seasons of the PKL and made his debut with the Patna Pirates in Season 3, which they won after defeating U Mumba in the final. Last season, he plied his trade with the Bengaluru Bulls.
The heart of the matter
In a very short span of time, Rohit emerged as one of the best raiders in the country and was part of the India team that won the gold medal at the South Asian Games (SAG) in Guwahati last year. He was adjudged the ‘Most Valuable Player’ in Season 3, where he scored an amazing 102 raid points in just 12 matches.
The lanky raider is known for his long reach, agility and his famous ‘Scorpion Kick’, which left many a defender flummoxed. He was part of the Bengaluru Bulls in Season 4, but he hit headlines for all the wrong reasons last year.
He was arrested in October, along with his father a few days after his wife allegedly committed suicide and before her death, she had alleged that she had been harassed by her in-laws over dowry and other issues. She also stated that Rohit had asked her to leave him for good.
In December last year, he was granted bail by a Delhi court.
What’s next?
He will surely be one of the most wanted players during the auction and many teams will be looking to snap him up.
Author’s take
Rohit’s return is good for the sport and the league as he is one of the best players in his role and will surely produce many memorable moments on the mat.
