UP Yoddha win four in a row defeating Gujarat Fortune Giants by 33-26
9th September 2019, Kolkata: U.P. Yoddha – the UP franchisee of the Pro Kabaddi League today notched up their fourth consecutive win defeating Gujarat Fortune Giants by a score-line of 33 – 26 in the 82nd game of the Pro Kabaddi League which was being played at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium, Kolkata. It was the day of the raiders for UP Yoddha as Shrikant Jadhav, Surender Gill and Rishank Devadiga scored 6, 6 and 5 points respectively. The defence was rock solid as usual as star defender Sumit notched up another high 5 for the season. U.P. Yoddha now has 42 points from 14 games and is placed at 5th position.
The first half began with both teams going toe to toe and not allowing an inch of breathing space to each other. The teams who are known for their defensive capabilities were proving their credibility. As the half seemed to be low scoring it was U.P. who took the initiative and inflicted the first all-out with just 2 minutes to go in the half going into a 14-9 lead. UP looked pumped as experienced Rishank Devadiga went in for a last-minute raid which yielded two points as the half-time bell rang. The two points also ensured that the star raider from U.P. Yoddha crossed 450 raid points in PKL. U.P. held the upper hand at half-time with a seven-point lead at 16-9.
The second half began with U.P. Yoddha carrying on from where they had left in the first half as they raced to a 19-10 lead with Shrikant Jadhav getting Parvesh Bhainswala and Rohit Gulia out. Gujarat with three minutes into the half though scored a super tackle to get Jadhav out. It was then the young raider Surender Gill who inflicted the second all-out on Gujarat to give his team a lead of 24-12. When it seemed U.P. will run away with the game Gujarat started scripting an epic comeback as a super raid from Sachin suddenly pushed U.P. on the back foot and moments later it was Sachin again who inflicted the first all-out of the match on U.P. Yoddha, to reduce the gap to 25-21. The lead was too steep for Gujarat and they U.P. closed the game by a massive margin of 7 points by a scoreline of 33-26.
U.P. Yoddha will now face Jaipur Pink Panthers on September 16, 2019, at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Pune.
