Video: Pro Kabaddi League 2017 Season 5: Haryana Steelers' Wazir Singh scores five touch points in one raid
On Tuesday, the Haryana leg of the fifth season of the Pro Kabaddi League entered its fourth day and fans were treated to two spectacular matches of kabaddi as the Bengal Warriors recorded one of the best comebacks of the season to defeat the Telugu Titans and the Haryana Steelers overcame a stiff challenge from Dabang Delhi.
The day featured some high-quality action and some amazing moments of individual brilliance. However, one moment stood out above all others as Wazir Singh produced arguably the best raid of the season so far, cleaning up the Delhi defence as he notched up a whopping five touch points. It certainly set the tone for the Steelers' win as they kept their defensive shape and nerve until the end to see the game out.
Wazir Singh, who was one of the best raiders in the initial editions of the PKL, was uncharacteristically poor in the last two seasons, with many doubting his abilities on the mat. However, he was made vice-captain by the Steelers and after an average start, he has stepped up to the plate and taken charge of the team's attack, especially after the injury to star raider Vikas Kandola.
Coming in for a do-or-die raid in the ninth minute of the first half, Wazir came under attack from the left corner, who pounced on his right leg with a vicious hold. The Delhi covers and right corner men also converged on the raider but he expertly used his upper body strength to power towards the midline. Extending his right hand, he got his fingertips just beyond the midline and was awarded five points thus, becoming only the second raider after Jasvir Singh to have done so this season.
