The Pro Kabaddi League Season 5 caravan shifted to Chennai on Friday and with the Inter Zonal week underway, the opening match of the leg saw the home side Tamil Thalaivas take on the Puneri Paltan, in what was a real edge-of-the-seat encounter, despite the scoreline suggesting a 20-33 win for the Zone A team.
The teams traded blows throughout the first half and at the end of the first 20 minutes, it was the Thalaivas, who sit on the bottom of the Zone B table, who had a narrow 12-11 lead. They extended their lead to 14-11 in the second half but the Pune side fought back to edge out in front at 15-16.
With the Thalaivas down to three men on the mat, Deepak Hooda came in to raid and in a moment of brilliance, he cleaned up the entire Thalaivas defence to complete the all out and get his side five points, which would prove to be the turning point of the match.
However, the way in which the all out was completed was something truly extraordinary and the raid will surely go down as one of the greatest in the league's history. Hooda seemed down and out as the three defenders pounced on him and looked to have successfully dashed him out.
The raider showed some incredible strength, balance and agility to somehow turn the defenders inside out and cross the midline, sending his teammates into raptures.
With the win over the Thalaivas, the Puneri Paltan now sit in third place on the Zone A table, having won 10 matches and lost just three.
