Vizag thrash Delhi to end home-run on a winning note
19th August 2014, Vizag:
After proving their mettle two matches in a row, the home team Telegu Titans were ready to take on yet another team who wanted a hat trick of victories as well. Jasmer Singh’s Dabang Delhi was ready to take on the Yellow army, determined to deny them their third victory in a row. But as the referee blew the final whistle and the curtain came down on the Vizag leg of the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League, it was the home team that won the match 45-26, scoring a hat trick of match wins and claiming the fourth spot in the league table. Vizag also joined U Mumba by not losing a single match in their home territory.
Celebrating the last day of the league in the city, the people of Vizag came to cheer for their home-team one last time in the beautiful Rajiv Gandhi Port Indoor Stadium. An even-steven clash, both Vizag and Delhi had a lot to play for.
If the Titans had the might of their terrific trio of raiders- Rahul Chaudhari, Sukesh Hegde and Deepak Niwas Hooda, the Dabang boys had their indomitable defending duo in the form of Jasmer Singh and Amit Singh.
Another interesting rattle in store was the one for the most raiding points between Rahul Chaudhari and Delhi’s Surjeet Narwal, which was ultimately won by Rahul who scored 12 raid points.
Starting the proceedings, Titans got off to a good start as Rahul Chaudhari, as a raider and Rajaguru as a defender, scored two points for the home team giving the team a perfect launch pad. Even the Delhi superstar Kashiling Adake’s spectacular lion’s jump failed as Sukesh Hegde and Deepak Niwas Hooda pinned him down in a brilliant tackle. But Deepak’s game slipped in the 8th minute as he decided to pin down Surjeet Narwal in a rather weak tackle, giving him a crucial point.
Thanks again to Rahul’s top class raid, Delhi suddenly found themselves five men short. Desperate to get ahead, pressure got to Delhi as Rahul Chaudhari and Sachin Shingade tackled him down. Titans welcomed their first LONA points by the 10th minute. Delhi’s defence came good as they took down Rahul Chaudhari and Deepak Niwas Hooda in a span of two minutes, thanks to a brilliant effort by their captain Jasmer Singh and Amit Singh.
Dabang Delhi started falling behind as Titans Deepak, Sukesh and Rahul scored 12 points amongst themselves, taking the tally to 20-12 in their favour by half-time.
Having dominated the first half of the match the yellow army, Sukesh Hegde continued their dream run as he took an acrobatic jump, defying Delhi’s tight defence. With Surjeet Narwal giving away a point by stepping into the lobby out of turn, Delhi was all out for the second time in the 23rd minute. Chants for Deepak filled the stadium as he ousted Delhi’s captain as well as their best defender, Jasmer Singh.
Dabang Delhi was visibly falling apart as Telegu Titans increased the lead by 17 points, ousting Delhi’s prized raiders, Kashiling and Surjeet. Deepak Niwas Hooda added to the damage inflicted on Delhi as he claimed two points off them, leaving Delhi with only two men.
As Jasmer Singh’s tackle on Rahul Chaudhari failed, the inevitable LONA points were awarded to the home team. Content with the points in their kitty, the Telegu Titans kept the final five minutes a low-key affair and emerged victorious by 19 points, in the 40th minute.
