A very satisfied skipper is Rahil Shah. That was quite a performance by the Chepauk Super Gillies and they live to see another day. Of course, they need iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans to do them a favor now and defeat Siechem Madurai Panthers in a couple of days' time else they will have to pack their bags. But they've done their bit and now, they wait and watch. As for Ba11sy Trichy, a sorry season keeps getting worse. They just don't seem to have a plan with the bat and they will be hoping they don't end the season winless although a red-hot Nellai Royal Kings outfit awaits them next on Wednesday.
Rahil Shah (Chepauk Super Gillies captain): Defending 130, we thought it won't be easy. But our bowlers did really well. Especially Simbu, he stuck to the plan. While batting I thought 150-160 will be a good score but it started turning while we were bowling. We spun the ball and the pitch also helped us. I just told him (Silambarasan) to keep it simple, give it revs and keep it on a length. And it showed in the results. Nothing short - if we bowl it up and get hit straight it's fine. (On what advice he would give as a captain for a pitch like this) Keep it on a length and hit the top of off stump - if you can do that consistently you will do well. We just have to chillax, have a popcorn and watch the match. I hope iDream wins (against Madurai).
Ganga Sridhar Raju (Ba11sy Trichy captain): (On his own bowling) The wicket was helpful and I looked to bowl in the right areas. With the bat we're losing too many wickets. We've not been able to build partnerships and it has carried over throughout the season. We've had a lot of learnings. Batting wise we're looking to build partnerships. We have been either defense or offense - we haven't been able to rotate strike well enough in between.
Who else but M Silambarasan as today's Player of the Match. Here's what he has to say: I enjoyed a lot. Rahil anna kept it simple - he told us to stick to the basics. I saw if it was turning. They were looking to step out and hit us so I pulled it back. I've been working on my bowling. I'm able to bowl fast and flight the ball.
Sanjay Yadav (Chepauk Super Gillies): It was a low-scoring game. The wicket was a little bit slow. It was slow when we were playing so we thought if all the spinners bowl good lines and lengths it will be easy for us. Silambarasan is a good bowler. He has been doing good from the first game and he did really great for the team today. Happy for that. Let's see what happens (on their qualification fate).
Match Summary: Chepauk Super Gillies beat Ba11sy Trichy by 58 runs.
R Sibi 31 (28) | M Silambarasan 5/12 (3) Daryl Ferrario 45 (30) | Ganga Sridhar Raju 3/15 (4)
Having lost five on the spin, one would have thought that things couldn't possibly get worse for Ba11sy Trichy. More so after a bowling performance of that kind where they restricted the Chepauk Super Gillies to a mere 129. But what we saw with the bat today was nothing short of a shocker.
Daryl Ferrario was the one man who stood tall as he watched a procession at the other end. Simply put, the wicket of T Saran off the very first ball was a sign of doom for Trichy, even as Ferrario never took the foot off the gas with some exquisite strokeplay that saw him find the fence at will while also clearing it on a regular basis. Once the spinners came on though, it was a different game altogether. Baba Aparajith was tidy in the powerplay as he also nipped Ganga Sridhar Raju in the bud. And then, it was the left-arm spin trio of Rahil Shah, Sanjay Yadav and M Silambarasan who cast their spell on the batters.
Rahil trapped Antony Dhas plumb in front with the pitch clearly offering enough assistance to work with. It was a simple strategy from the Chepauk tweakers - keep it simple on the right radar and let the natural variation in the pitch take over. That is exactly what happened and nobody did it better than M Silambarasan, who attacked the stumps consistently and had the batters dance to his tunes.
K Mani Bharathi was a big miss for Trichy and SP Vinod, who was the impact substitute, couldn't do much himself. Nobody could in fact, as they looked all at sea against the spinners and it all came to a sorry end the moment Ferrario was dismissed by Silambarasan, who snared five wickets. Things were wrapped up soon after as the Super Gillies not only completed a massive win but also gave their net run-rate a massive boost in their final league fixture. Stick around for the presentation...
And that is that! As simple as it can get and from 56/3, Ba11sy Trichy have slumped to 71 all out. An appalling display even on a pitch that was tricky to bat on. But the Chepauk Super Gillies live to see another day!
13.4 Sanjay Yadav to G Godson, HOLES OUT! THAT IS THAT! Tossed up full on off stump as Godson swings wildly. Miscues it wide of long off who settles in the deep and pouches it without breaking a sweat. This has been a drubbing of some kind that has been handed out to Ba11sy Trichy. Chepauk Super Gillies stay alive with a 58-run win!
G Godson c S Harish Kumar b Sanjay Yadav 7 (11b, 1x4, 0x6)
13.3 Sanjay Yadav to G Godson, AH! Floats it wide of off stump on a length as Godson reaches for it with a swipe. Beats him to the keeper who then dislodges the bails
