So, the T20 trophy has been handed over to the Sri Lanka captain, Hasaranga, who has now given it to his teammates for the celebrations and photographs. That is it from the shortest format of the game between these two teams, the ODI Series will begin in three days time in this multi-format series. Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka Captain) - I watched the first two games from the dressing room, the boys played really well. I trust msyelf, the wicket was a bit dry and I backed my abilities. Thushara bowled really well and we had a bowling attack that was too good for them. This is our last series before the T2) World Cup, so very happy with the result and we can take confidence from this
Kusal Mendis (Player of the series) - It was a bit too paced in the first few overs, after 6 overs I was able to manage it. Kamidu and Wanindu batted well, I played my own game with singles and boundaries. Mathews and Shanaka finshed off well. Overall, very happy, Asalanka batted really well and the bowlers, Thushara bowled very well too.
Kusal Mendis has been awarded the Player of the Series award for his 181 runs in 3 matches, here's what he said -
Nuwan Thushara (Translated by assisant coach Naveed Nawaz) - He's happy with his rhythm and to make an impact in this team. This is the first time that he has taken a hat-trick and he is very happy to do it for his country
Nuwan Thushara bags the Player of the Match award for his impressive bowling figures
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh Captain) - They batted brilliantly but we came back strongly in the last 4-5 overs. Credit to Thusara as he bowled brilliantly. We played some good cricket in the last few matches. Credit to Taskin and Rishad. We take a lot of confidence from this series but that's a different format. We look forward to it
An all-time great spell in T20 international sees Sri Lanka taking this decider by 28 runs and eventually winning the series as well with a margin of 2-1.
Litton Das went early in the chase of 175 but after that it was the Nuwan Thushara show in the powerplay when he ripped through the heart of the Bangladeshi batting line-up. He started off with a hat-trick in his first over and sent shivers down the Bangladeshis. Swinging the ball late, he was virtually unplayable in his first spell as he went through the defence of the most accomplished batters of the host team who had no idea what was happening as he got 4 wickets in his first 2 overs.
Hasaranga joined in on the action soon as Bangladesh were educed to 6/32 in the 9th over and it looked like they will fizzle out anytime soon. They had no business getting to 146 eventually, but some late-order brilliance from Rishad Hossain gave the crowd plenty to cheer as he blazed his way to a half-century with 7 maximums and was ably supported by Taskin Ahmed. But, the target was too tall for him and he eventually succumbed to the pressure.
The bowlers cleaned up the tail as Thushara returned and claimed a 5-er, only the fourth Sri Lankan bowler to do so, and eventually was all over for the home team as they were bowled out in the final over.
Earlier in the piece, Sri Lanka had got to 175 largely on the back of a splendid 86-run knock from their opener Kusal Mendis who has been in splendid form. The wickets kept falling at regular intervals from the other end with the likes of Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain picking 2 each but Mendis held one end up and took Sri Lanka to a decent score.
19.4 Dasun Shanaka to Taskin Ahmed, OUT! Sri Lanka win the series 2-1. Bangladesh fought hard after Thushara's dream spell reduced them to 32-6 but there is only one winner in this contest. Pitched up on a good length, Taskin plays a flat-batted shot towards long-on. Dhananjaya times his jump to perfection to take it but when he knew he was losing balance,
Taskin Ahmed c Dhananjaya de Sliva b Dasun Shanaka 31 (21b, 3x4, 2x6).
19.3 Dasun Shanaka to Taskin Ahmed, pitched up angling across off-stump, Taskin leaves it alone it stays just inside the line
19.2 Dasun Shanaka to Taskin Ahmed, dug it short outside leg-stump, Taskin swings across the line but can't get on top of the bounce
19.1 Dasun Shanaka to Taskin Ahmed, off-pace delivery outside leg-stump, Taskin pulls but gets an inside edge onto his pads
