That's it from the first match of the day of ILT20 with the Desert Vipers registering a dominant victory over the Gulf Giants. The Vipers have taken the third position in the points table from the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders who will be playing against the Dubai Capitals in a just a while from now. Do join us for that, as this is the pair of Sourabh and Pradeep taking your leave for now. Goodbye!
Azam Khan (Player of the match) - Enjoyed the game. I always believe in myself that I have the ability to finish games. I was looking for a big over and I got that from Carlos Brathwaite. I do not look at records like the fastest fifties, T20 is a small game and I think the better the strike rate the better the batter in this format. Certainly going to celebrate tonight!
Colin Munro (Desert Vipers captain): Happy and hilarious, I'm alright. We started off well with the ball, got the wicket of Vince and then finished well in the end. We gave away 10-15 too many in the end, nice to see Hales do well at the top of the order. We know what Azam Khan can do when he gets going. I've had time in the middle, but just not the runs, but is happy tonight, speaking to the coaches and guys back home, Luke Ronchi. It's a great team win, we're in the middle table, we hopefully get to the top of the table tomorrow.
James Vince (Gulf Giants captain): Didn't get off to a great start, losing myself early and finished strong, perhaps in the middle, it was difficult an tough to judge what the score though. The ball wasn't coming on all that well and 160 was never going to be enough, it was something to bowl at. That partnership and Azam played a blinder, took the game away from us. Bowlers did pretty well, but we didn't keep pecking back to take the wickets. Just go back, think and dust yourselves to come back to do well.
Desert Vipers won by 6 wickets Colin Munro 51(36) | Mohammad Amir 3/34(4) Shimron Hetmyer 40*(23) | Zohaib Zubair 2/49(4)
Desert Vipers have eventually won this match at a canter and have jumped right from the bottom to take the third position on the points table.
Having won the toss, Desert Vipers restricted the Gulf Giants to an under- par score of 160. Mohammad Amir and Wanindu Hasaranga starred with the ball for the Vipers as the Giants never really got going in their batting innings. It was eventually a 40* from Hetmyer which took them to 160 with none of their batters making any other big contributions.
160 was never going to be enough at this venue and the batters from Vipers proved exactly that. With the quickest fifty in the tournament history from Azam Khan and another brilliant one from the skipper Colin Munro, the Vipers have finished this chase off rather early. The Giants only had a slight opening in the middle when their young leggie Zubair got a couple of wickets in an over. But, that was that for Giants in this game. Stay tuned for the presentations!
16.6 Blessing Muzarabani to Azam Khan, WIDE! THAT IS THAT! It's an anti-climatic end to the game, but what a knock that from Azam Khan, came in and took the game from the scruff of the neck and gets his team over the line. Muzarabani tries to keep it well outside the off-stump, but that just goes past the tramline and has been called the wide.
16.5 Blessing Muzarabani to Azam Khan, OH! Bangs in the short delivery on the off-stump, Azam gets inside the line to pull but misses, through to the keeper.
16.4 Blessing Muzarabani to Azam Khan, short outside the off-stump, Azam reaches to smack that one away, but mistimes it to mid-off.
16.3 Blessing Muzarabani to Adam Hose, length delivery on the leg-stump. Hose whips it past square-leg and they settle for a single. Scores are level now!
