We now come to the conclusion of our coverage of the second T20I between these two sides. The third and final T20I is set to begin at a similar time tomorrow - join us right here on Sportskeeda for our coverage of the same, and of course, a whole lot more! This is Rajarshi, signing off on behalf of Pradeep. See you later!
Charlie Dean is the Player Of The Match! Here's what she has to say: Really happy with how the game played out. The bowlers around me made the game easier to be able to settle in. Really chuffed. In T20, I find it really important not to get stuck bowling the same ball over and over again. Varying the pace is super important. It's kind of a gut feel as well, probably push it through a bit quicker when you sense someone's going to sweep. Ideally, a 100 percent of my balls should hit the stumps. I'm not quite there yet, but then again, a gut feel of where batters are looking to hit me towards.
Heather Knight (England captain): Really brilliant series win, thoguht the crowd was outstanding, players to experience that kind of pressure, wickets started falling, we really felt it in the middle, but the fans were brilliant. We bowled as a unit to keep them to 80, really proud. Charlie's bowled really well in the powerplay, she suits the balance of the side, that allows Sophie and Sarah to bowl through those middle overs and she's delivered the job and bowling group adapted really well. Got to read the conditions, but it was quite hard for the openers, it swung too much compared to our bowlers, I thought Renuka made life hard, but in the game situation, the job was to get over the line with not losing too many wickets, but we will take the win. With the test match coming up, will have to look at the side, but Sarah's picked up a thumb injury, will have a chat and obviously would love to 3-0 and take the momentum into the test match.
Harmanpreet Kaur (India captain): I think another 30 or 40 runs would've made it tough for them, but proud of the team that we didn't give up that easily. I don't think so, we always wants to stay positive in the middle, some of us didn't read the ball well and the bowling was good too, they didn't give out anything easy, but proud of the team and we showed the fight with the ball and on the fielding. After losing early wickets, if we are able to get to 120, would've made it a huge difference, but failed miserably, but the bowlers turned it on for us.
Alice Capsey: Didn't go as planned at the end, main thing was to get the win and delighted to do it. We almost played a perfect game of cricket, playing against India is a challenge, looking forward to go again tomorrow night. Dean was brilliant, missing out the last game, comes in and start off with a wicket of the first over and then gets Smriti, bowled nicely along with Sarah Glenn, our three spinners really putting in the work, our seamers following it up. Half the girls were in and half the girls out playing WBBL in Australia, it was nice to get the whole group together and real buzz around the group. (Trying to make a clean sweep tomorrow?) Yea, That's the plan!
Match summary:
England win by 4 wickets with 52 balls to spare
Alice Capsey 25(21) | Sarah Glenn 2/13 (3) Jemimah Rodrigues 30(33) | Deepti Sharma 2/4 (2)
As it turned out, the hosts did turn up. They did so in rather spectacular fashion, but it was far too late, akin to a stoppage time consolation goal. England always had this game in the bag, there was some turbulence as they lost 4 wickets for 12 runs towards the closing stages. But they still had some batting to come, they also had Heather Knight in the middle, and while there were a few nervy moments, they got there eventually.
The way they approached the chase initially, it seemed like England were keen on wrapping the game and series up as quickly as possible. It was completely different to how India approached the powerplay overs - even after losing a couple of wickets, their batters - Alice Capsey and Natalie-Sciver Brunt - were keen on finding the boundaries. Their running between the wickets was as good, further denting the confidence of the Indian outfit.
Renuka Singh Thakur, as she does so often, made her impact felt in the powerplay, cleaning up both the England openers. However, the start to her spell wasn't as good - Renuka strayed down leg far too often, and conceded 9 off the first over itself. While she bowled her quota of overs on the trot, a third breakthrough just didn't come along for her.
The third wicket did come along for India eventually, thanks to an incredible effort from substitute fielder Amanjot Kaur. Capsey tried to give herself room and go over cover, wasn't in control of the shot, the ball lobbed to the left of Amanjot, who flung herself to her left and plucked the ball out of thin air.
That wicket seemed to inject some energy in the Indian outfit - Deepti Sharma then scalped back-to-back wickets, but given the target was down to single figures by then, England didn't find it too hard to sneak through.
They had a scare of sorts very late, but England get the job done eventually! 16 wickets fell in a total of 27.4 overs today, and in the end, England walk away as winners.
11.2 Shreyanka Patil to Sophie Ecclestone, EDGED AND FOUR! England win! India almost made a match out of this total, had they only gotten past 100, things would've been totally different but England do get the win but not so convincing in the end. Ecclestone skips down the track for a wild hack, takes the outside edge and runs down to third-man ropes to seal the game.
11.1 Shreyanka Patil to Sophie Ecclestone, drags it short, turning back in on the off-stump. Ecclestone swipes it across the line to deep square-leg. Sadhu makes a diving stop, they come back for a couple.
Shreyanka Patil, right-arm off-break, comes into the attack
