That winds up the first of three matches in this series. India Women have taken a 1-0 lead with a thumping win. The second match will be played at the same venue after a day's gap, we will be there to bring you all the action. For now, this is Sourabh signing off on behalf of Darpan and the entire team. Good bye!
Pratika Rawal (Player of the Match): I'm feeling comfortable here (at the international arena). It really helps (having Smriti at the other end), the kind of shots she plays it keeps the scoreboard going and there is less pressure on me as it eases me down. We were trying to keep things simple, it was a good start, just needed to carry the momentum. Towards the end, Tejal played really well. All of us made a mark today. I am not focusing on the results and the big numbers (on being asked whether she had the 100 in her mind), just taking it one match at a time. Whenever the ball is in my slot I go for my shots otherwise I look to take the singles
Smriti Mandhana (India Women captain): Bowlers did a really good job on this wicket which had literally nothing, we can improve with our fielding. Really happy with the way Pratika and Tejal finished it off. Have had nice conversations in the last 2-3 days, knowing your bowlers is really crucial, the way they executed the bouncers and slower ones was really well. We want to be critical on ourselves, specially on a day we have won. At 56/4, we would have liked to restrict them to 180 but we are aiming to do that moving forward. Lot of matches are won by the things that are done behind the scenes, we want to stick to our processes and routines.
Gaby Lewis (Ireland Women's captain): "I am feeling good. Started to cramp up, but feeling much better now. I don't think we bowled to the best of our abilities. There are definitely some positives to take. I think I batted well. Credit to Leah (Paul) too, she did really well. We are coming from Bangladesh. The wickets are pretty different here. I am happy with the performance we have put in."
Here is whatTejal Hasabnis has to say: "I feel great. But more than my half-century, (the fact) that I could contribute to the team's win. That is what makes me happy. I love chasing. I was playing according to the scoreboard. I was trying to pace my innings accordingly and hit the ball into the gaps. (On getting stuck on 49* for a bit) Nerves kicked in. It was a matter of just one run. Then, I told myself "You have hit 49, you can hit one more run too". The free hit that I hit through covers was my favourite shot in today's innings. I will just keep looking forward and try to be more consistent."
17:20 IST: India Women win by 6 wickets and lead the 3-match series 1-0
A thumping victory for India and they get home with 15.3 overs remaining, marking their 13th successive win over Ireland across formats.
239 was never going to be enough against this tall Indian batting line up and if Ireland had to have any chance they needed to strike but unfortunately for them it did not happen. The bowling with the new ball was all over the place and the Indian opening pair, Smriti Mandhana specifically, made merry as India got a brisk start.
India scored 70 in the first 10 overs and lost their skipper on the final ball of the powerplay after Smriti and Pratika stitched together another fruitful partnership. A bit of a lull followed Smriti's dismissal as Harleen got stuck at the crease and then got out after getting a start. Jemimah went early too and Ireland were in with a sniff at that stage with left-arm spinner Maguire bowling beautifully.
However, it was only short-lived as Tejal walked out with great purpose to the crease and played fluently right from the start. A disastrous spell from Laura Denaly helped India as well as the medium pacer failed to land the ball on multiple occasions and was eventually banished from the attack after bowling two beamers in an over, that over cost Ireland 22 runs and there was no looking back for India from there on.
Pratika and Tejal played some delightful shots as they upped the ante in pursuit of some quick runs as they got closer to the target, Tejal got to her maiden international fifty and Praika fell close to the target but not before ensuring the win for India which was sealed by a boundary off Richa Ghosh's blade at the end.
34.3 Georgina Dempsey to Richa Ghosh, FINISHES IT WITH FLAMBOYANCE! Full, outside off. Ghosh throws her hands at it and elevates it over cover to score the winning boundary. India chase the target down with 93 balls to spare.
34.2 Georgina Dempsey to Tejal Hasabnis, good length, at the stumps. Swished across to deep midwicket.
34.1 Georgina Dempsey to Tejal Hasabnis, WANTS THE RUN, GHOSH IS NOT INTERESTED! Hasabnis has to return from halfway down the pitch. Good length ball, hit to mid-on. No damage done.
Just 3 more needed for India to win now, they are getting there swinging
