Match Summary: Denmark beat Italy by 9 wickets with three overs to spare.
Abdul Hashmi 57* (24) | Jonas Henriksen 27* (14) Zain Naqvi 22 (6) | Saud Munir 3/12 (2)
Thorough dominance by Denmark and their batters! Their bowlers set it up of course courtesy a brilliant comeback with the ball in the second half of the first essay as Italy were restricted to just 100. The manner in which the chase began though, there was virtually no contest as the end result duly suggests.
Shangeev Thanikaithasan was up and running in a flash, whipping up three boundaries and a huge six in the very first over to state his intentions clearly. It took a sharp direct throw from Jagmeet Singh to send him packing and while that might have derailed the innings on another day, today was one where Denmark could do no wrong. Abdul Hashmi took every bowler in sight to the cleaners with skipper Jonas Henriksen enjoying from the best seat in the house. Once 49 runs were reeled off in the powerplay, Denmark were right on track to wrap up the chase without breaking a sweat.
And that is exactly how things transpired - Hashmi continued with his merry ways with nothing working for the Italian bowlers who just seemed listless. Whatever momentum Denmark carried into the chase, they managed to translate it into a bucketful of big hits to shut the door firmly on Italy. There was to be no turnaround after the halfway mark of the innings either as Hashmi notched up a blazing half-century before his skipper duly sealed the deal with some big hits of his own.
A winning start then for Denmark and in grand fashion too as they give their net run-rate a massive boost. That could very well come in handy as this group stage progresses although from Italy's point of view, this is a game they have to put behind them at the earliest as they seek to bounce back.
Sealed in style! The captain has the last say in the contest and this has been a terrific chase by Denmark. What a way to kickstart your campaign as Denmark get on the board with a resounding 9-wicket win!
