So, that is it from myself, Karthik Raj and my co-commentator, Pratyush Rohra. Do stay tuned to Sportskeeda with a lot more matches coming up tomorrow including the IPL, the second ODI between Ireland and Bangladesh and many more. Until next time, it is a warm good-bye!
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Player of the Match: In my mind, I wanted to play well. It is a nice feeling and I am happy that we won. I try my best and I think about my process a lot. Result will come but preparations and belief is more important. The winning shot was a great feeling as I always wanted to finish games. Winning matches for the team is my motto. I am blessed and I am grateful. I was just thinking to increase my strike-rate. I was just discussing with Sanju bhai (Sanju Samson) that if we score quickly, it will help our strike-rate. No one does it purposefully. Sanju bhai came and said don't worry, just carry on. I am just blessed to have a platform like the IPL. Just grateful to be here.
Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals captain): I didn't have to do anything. Just had to put bat on ball and get to the other end. Enjoyed watching him. We know what he can do now. He loves the Powerplay, has got the fun factor for Powerplay. It is time to give him the tag of 'Legend'. We were very happy when we signed him last year itself. He knows what he needs to do, very brave bowler. The pressure is never off. You know how the IPL is. You can see how a legend like Buttler sacrifices his wicket for Jaiswal, you can tell how the atmosphere of the team is
Yashasvi Jaiswal is getting a horde of awards and he absolutely deserves and all of those!
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
The crowd at Eden Gardens usually appreciates good cricket. Tonight, they were chanting Yashasvi Jaiswal's name after the youngster put on an absolute show. Here are some of the best Twitter reactions from that knock 👇
Nitish Rana: You (Jaiswal) have to give him credit. There are days when things go your way, today was his day. It was a 170-180 wicket. We made some mistakes in the batting department and as a result we lost two points tonight. [Bowling the first over] Not to call myself a part-timer bowler, but I thought if someone like me comes along, it might work. It was in our plans and didn't work out, I can't bother about what anyone says because we know it didn't work out. Credit for to Jaiswal, he started attacking from the first ball and batted brilliantly.
What a sensational win for RR turbo-charged by Yashasvi Jaiswal's jaw-dropping 98 off 47 balls. KKR would have thought they had some chance after posting 149-8 on a slow-ish track but Jaiswal came out all guns blazing to bury their hopes. The gamble from Nitish Rana to bowl himself for the first over kicked off the carnage as Jaiswal smashed him for 26 balls. In the next over, a bad mix-up resulted in Jos Buttler getting run-out for a three-ball duck. However, that didn't affect Jaiswal as he continued to smash the KKR bowlers on the way to breaking the all-time IPL record for fastest IPL fifty in the third over.
Nitish tried to use different bowling options but none worked as Jaiswal continued to butcher all parts of the ground while his partner and RR skipper Sanju Samson also joined in the party in the 11th over. Samson started to produce some cracking shots on his own as he neared his fifty. Yet, he decided to help Jaiswal get to his hundred but the southpaw fell just two short of the milestone!
13.1 Shardul Thakur to Yashasvi Jaiswal, FOUR! YASHASVI JAISWAL, TAKE A BOW! He doesn't get to a century but he celebrates like he's got one, as he should. Takes his helmet off and points to the RR badge on his chest as he gets a hug from his captain. That was a knock of the highest order. Low full toss wide outside the off-stump, swept away through backward square leg to seal the deal. Rajasthan Royals win by 9 wickets with 41 balls to spare!
