Match Summary: Peshawar Zalmi beat Lahore Qalandars by 8 runs.
Saim Ayub 88 (55) | Naveen-ul-Haq 2/50 (4) Rassie van der Dussen 104* (52) | Shaheen Afridi 3/33 (4)
Oh what could have been for the Lahore Qalandars! They gave it absolutely everything in that chase with Rassie van der Dussen in particular producing a splendid knock. But alas, it has gone in vain with the defending champions now staring down the barrel with a fifth defeat. The openers simply had to get the Qalandars off to a flyer but despite a few boundaries off the willow of Sahibzada Farhan, he failed to convert his start into a substantial score. Fakhar Zaman swung wildly across the line and saw his furniture disturbed as a result. But van der Dussen took on anything in the slot and powered it either into or over the fence - after he began with back-to-back boundaries to state his intentions.
He had an able ally in Shai Hope who played a few good shots of his own. But the asking rate was such that the big hits simply had to keep coming. It was a challenge even on a track as flat as this one but van der Dussen was unstoppable, racing along to a superb half-century and in no mood to stop even as Hope dragged a wide one back onto his stumps.
Ahsan Bhatti chipped in with a useful cameo even as the bowlers looked to fire their yorkers and use their variations. A screamer from Saim Ayub sent Bhatti back but Jahandad Khan went after Salman Irshad to keep his team in the hunt. It must be said that it was a real surprise to see Sikandar Raza being held back considering all the experience he boasts of. Although it could be a case of hindsight, it is something that the Qalandars may just look back upon and wonder if they got it right.
Eventually, despite their best efforts in taking the game into the last over, they couldn't get the better of Paul Walter. It didn't help that van der Dussen, who had by then blitzed a stunning hundred, didn't face much of the strike in the last over. It really came down to him to pull it off but a great knock has not come with the desired result for him or his team. Five defeats in as many games now for the Qalandars while Zalmi have managed to win two on the bounce having begun their campaign with consecutive defeats.
Too little, far too late. Should Brathwaite have come out earlier? We can always look back and wonder but alas for the Lahore Qalandars, it's yet another defeat!

19.6 Paul Walter to Carlos Brathwaite, SIX BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER!! Length delivery on off stump Brathwaite hits it over long off for a maximum, PESHAWAR WIN BY 8 RUNS!!
19.5 Paul Walter to Carlos Brathwaite, slower one outside off, Brathwaite swings and misses
Carlos Brathwaite, RHB, comes to the crease
He's short of his ground here! And that will be that for this game. Two legal deliveries are all that Walter has to send down to seal victory for Zalmi.
19.4 Paul Walter to Sikandar Raza, RUN OUT!!!! Slower one outside the off stump, Raza swings and gets it on the bounce to mid wicket who sends in an accurate throw to catch Raza short of the crease in the attempt of a second run
