That brings us to the end of our coverage for this encounter. The second encounter of the day has just started. You can switch tabs to follow the game but for now, this is me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Rudransh Khurrana. Goodnight!
Kagiso Rabada (Player of the Match): Just got the line wrong, that wasn't good enough. Every run at this stage was crucial to defend. But unfortunately it didn't go our way. We didn't want to think too much about last year, we were tighter as a group this year but the bit of inexperience cost us. No one is blaming anyone and we wish to come back strong next year. I think the strongest side at this stage is DSG. It's always amazing playing infront of the Newlands. The cricket has been good and the local players have been improving my leaps and bounds
Wayne Parnell: Great performance from us. Happy to win the last league game. It got a bit nervy at the backend but happy to win. We had a figure where we wanted to keep them under. Cape Town is never a high-scoring ground. They have a quality bowling lineup which put us under pressure. A really nice cameo from Muthusamy. After the last game, I asked him to just not get runout. He can hurt you in different ways to guys like Kieron Pollard. Now It'd just enjoy some time with my family and keep an eye out on the game.
Kieron Pollard: Yeah, of course very very disappointing. Congratulations to the Capitals and thank you to the crowd. It was a lot of different, little things, starting overs, finishing overs which has led to this position. Jacks bowling was a intuitive thing. If you want to analyse that, I don't think it was that. We can say there were a lot of things like that. We should have got to 180 but it was for us to defend which we should have. I can't analyse now because we have just finished a game. It's easier said than done. Easy to analyse it from the outside. We apologise firstly for not qualifying. Hopefully next year's ours.
Pretoria Capitals won by 4 wickets (with two deliveries to spare)
Theunis de Bruyn 42(33) | Wayne Parnell 4/33(4) Rassie van der Dussen 60(46) | George Linde 2/36(4)
The Pretoria Capitals were on the backfoot for the majority of the run chase but a stunning knock from Senuran Muthusamy took the Pretoria Capitals over the line in the final over. Muthusamy had his plans set and played some outrageous shots in the penultimate over to almost seal the deal for the Capitals. It was all MI till the arrival of Muthusamy. They were under the pump right from the word go. Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada provided them early breakthroughs by bagging the important wickets of Phil Salt and Will Jacks respectively.
At 10/2, the pressure was well and truly on the Capitals but the likes of Kyle Verreynne and Rilee Rossouw who steadied the ship a bit. Verreynne in particular continued from where he left the other day. He smashed some lusty blows and raced off to 34 off 22 deliveries which included a four and three sixes. Colin Ackerman also departed cheaply and at one stage, it looked the game was done and dusted for the Capitals. The partnership of Theunis de Bruyn and Senuran Muthusamy turned the complexion of the game with stunning bagging.
De Bruyn scored 42 off 33 deliveries before his departure. A 55 run partnership was followed by another 34 run partnership. Sam Curran ended up bowling a costly penultimate over which changed the course of the game. Two outrageous reverse ramps carried all the way for maximums over the third man fence which brought the equation down to 7 required off the final over and that was never going to be a problem for them. Muthusamy eventually remained unbeaten on 38 off 18 deliveries. George Linde was the pick of the bowlers for MI Cape Town as he finished with figures of 2/36.
19.4 Nuwan Thushara to Wayne Parnell, AND THE CAPITALS WIN THE REVERSE FIXTURE!!!!! What a win. The Cape Towners have been shocked and MI should know they have been really poor. Short ball on the middle and leg, not according to the field once again, Parnell goes behind and thumps the pull! He raises his hand to the quiet crowd. The Capitals are alive, somehow, but alive.
19.3 Nuwan Thushara to Senuran Muthusamy, high bouncing short ball on the middle and leg-stump line, Muthusamy gets his bat high in the air and taps it down to deep fine leg for one
19.2 Nuwan Thushara to Wayne Parnell, nails the yorker on the off, Parnell digs it out to long off
19.1 Nuwan Thushara to Wayne Parnell, FOURRRRR! What a start. Just three runs needed. Poor length ball on the middle from Thushara, completely against the field. Parnell sits and pulls it to deep square leg! Pollard shakes his head. He has himself to blame too.
Muthusamy is out there to spoil the party for the MI Cape Town. Using the pace of the delivery and again reverse ramping that over the third man fence. He has played a bit of a gem here and has taken his team within 7 runs of the victory target.
