That's it from this match, folks! As Reval said, his team now have a glimmer of hope of making the finals while the Firebirds have got another wakeup call to sort their act out. Hope you enjoyed the coverage and won't hate seeing my (Rudransh's) and Mohul's name on a commentary blog the next time. Tata!
Jeet Raval, Brave captain: Yeah, extremely happy. Nice to get the win and more because of the way we did it. We had the extra luxury of Zacky coming in late and we identified that hitting the lengths and getting it waist high was difficult. We have a glimmer of hope about staying in the comp. We'll enjoy this win and would look to continue the next one at home.
Nick Kelly, Wellington captain: It is a part of the learning process. Perhaps things would have been different had we got at least 130-140. We have to wait till our next game to reflect and see what we have done wrong. We need to improve well. I think it's quite good for the group when Rachin comes back. Unfortunately, he got run out today but hopefully, things will work out for us.
Scott Kuggeleijn, Player of the Match: It was a really good wicket. When you get the ball in your hand, you try to hit the back of a length as much as possible. When they were 27-6, I was thinking, "Surely, we are knocking these runs down." It was a good game, and it is not often that you get to showcase such an outstanding performance. Luckily, the catch went my way as well. It was a day when the conditions went in my favour.
That's it! Northern Districts win by seven wickets!
Jeet Raval 32 (28) | Nathan Smith (1/16) Nathan Smith 26 (21) | Matthew Fisher (2/12)
A couple of jitters but in the end a convincing win for the Northern Districts. They had a small target to chase but never really looked casual in how they went about it. Everyone did their roles in a professional manner to back up a brilliant bowling performance in the first innings.
Clarke and Cooper started with calculated aggression. They got a few boundaries away early on. Edges flew as the pitch offered movement to van Beek and Smith but half-chances didn't become full ones and the bowling side looked short on luck as well.
van Beek got the first breakthrough courtesy of a man who was everywhere, Smith, and then the catcher came back to take a LBW to send the other opener away. But Raval led from the front and counter-attacked against Bracewell.
Once he had done that, the run rate was well in control and there was no coming back for the bowling side. Bracewell did drop a catch at a crucial moment near the end but even that wouldn't have mattered much seeing the way the batters went about the chase.
16.0
15.3 Michael Bracewell to Brett Hampton, SIX! NORTHERN BRAVE WIN THIS GAME! Tossed up at a length outside off, turns back in. Hampton leans forward and slogs it away over long on for a massive hit. That was a wonderful strike! The Northern Brave win this game by 7 wickets!
15.3 Michael Bracewell to Brett Hampton, WIDE down the legside! Hampton tries to glance at it but misses.
15.2 Michael Bracewell to Brett Hampton, full and straight on off and middle. Hampton tries to heave it away to the on side but does not get all of it.
15.1 Michael Bracewell to Brett Hampton, FOUR! POOR DELIVERY! Rather short delivery on middle and leg. Hampton goes back and pulls it away wide of the fielder at deep square leg for a boundary!
