Mob item swap and other great changes in Minecraft snapshot 24w45
1) Mob item swap
Minecraft snapshot 24w45 has introduced an array of updates to existing gameplay mechanics and interactions. Notably, changes have been made to how mobs decide to replace their equipped items with those they find on the ground.
If the item on the ground belongs to a particular armor slot, it is replaced if the new one has a higher base armor value or better base armor toughness points. It will also be replaced if the new item has more or better enchantments or has less damage. Additionally, a replacement will occur if the ground loot has been given a custom name unlike the one currently equipped.
As for items equipped in the main hand slot, they will be replaced if the new one is a preferred weapon for the mob or if it has a higher base value of damage. The swap also occurs if the new one is more enchanted or has sustained less damage. Similar to the item swap on the ground, the change will occur if the loot has a custom name that the old one does not possess.
2) Preferred weapons for mobs
Minecraft snapshot 24w45 introduces a new mechanic where certain mobs will now go for their preferred weapons if there is a choice available.
All variants of the skeleton mob will prefer bows, while piglins and pillagers will sport their signature crossbows. On the deeper end, the drowned will arm themselves with tridents befitting their underwater nature.
3) Suspicious stew gets balanced
The suspicious stew is one of the best ways of healing in Minecraft and is a popular recipe among players. The snapshot introduces balancing to the properties of this food item as part of Mojang's effort to maintain parity with the Bedrock edition of the game.
Here are the changes made to the suspicious stew status effects depending on the recipe you have made:
- Fire Resistance: 3 seconds
- Regeneration: 7 seconds
- Blindness: 11 seconds
- Regeneration: 7 seconds
- Weakness: 7 seconds
- Wither: 7 seconds
- Jump Boost: 5 seconds

4) Changes to the eyeblossom
The eyeblossom in Minecraft was introduced in the last snapshot and has easily become a popular flower in the Pale Garden biome.
As part of the Minecraft snapshot 24w45 update, bees do not interact with the closed eyeblossom, and they do not get poisoned when they touch it during the daytime. Additionally, they will not be tempted by the closed variant of the flower anymore.
5) Modifications to the creaking mob
Minecraft snapshot 24w45 introduces small but significant changes to the movement and behavior of the popular creaking mob. An activated creaking will not move if a player in a survival or adventure mode of the game is looking at it. The mob will also have a full knockback resistance in that particular state.
Knockback essentially refers to the pushback received from mobs or natural effects. Minecraft snapshot 24w45 employs a mechanic where the creaking mob will be immune to any kind of knockback during the activated phase.
