Best practices for using shulker boxes in Minecraft

Shulker boxes are one of the most overpowered blocks in Minecraft. When players enter a new world, they quickly encounter the issue of managing their inventory since there are loads of new resources to collect. Though they can create massive storage systems, they cannot beat shulker boxes, which can store several stacks of items and only take up one slot in an inventory.

Over the years, players have learned to properly manage all their shulker boxes so that they can get the most use out of them. Here are some of the best practices while managing shulker boxes.

What are the best tips for using shulker boxes in Minecraft?

Color-code each shulker box

One of the best features of a shulker box is that it can be color-coded. When players craft this block, they can use it to fill all types of items. Generally, they will try to group items based on their type and fill each shulker box with it. However, if every shulker box is purple, players need to open each to find the desired item.

Hence, players can color-code them by applying dye to them on the crafting table. For example, a dark or light green shulker box could contain various crops or nature-related items like saplings, seeds, etc. When it is placed in the world, players will instantly know what the shulker box holds.

Naming shulker boxes

Apart from color-coding shulker boxes, players can also name them through the anvil—a block that allows players to either enchant gear with an enchanting table or rename any item in the game. When shulker boxes are crafted, they are simply called what they are.

However, they can be given different names on the anvil for only one enchantment level. Different names of each shulker box will help players quickly know what the shulker box is holding before placing it and opening it. Players can hover over them to quickly see what they have with their names themselves.

Putting important shulker boxes in an ender chest

While players can store multiple shulker boxes in their inventory, some of the more important ones should be stored in an ender chest. This is because even if players die and respawn without any item, the contents of an ender chest do not go anywhere and can be accessed from any ender chest placed in the world.

Hence, players can keep multiple shulker boxes with important items like multiple strong armor sets, weapons, tools, and even food items in various shulker shells so that they can get back into the fight after their death.
