"Call Mojang and make their movie for them": Minecraft fan creates animated trailer, prompting community comparisons to the live-action teaser

Minecraft players finally got to witness the teaser trailer of the upcoming “A Minecraft Movie” and the reaction was lukewarm at best. Fans were not happy with the way everything looked, from the cast members to the world and the mobs. Considering that the movie may not be as good as first imagined, many fans have started sharing their own versions of the movie and even their own stories with unique animation styles.

A Minecraft player and Reddit user named u/Quantum_Crab, who is also a talented animator, shared a trailer for their upcoming Minecraft animation that shows the life of a golem. The animation style is a mix of 2D sketches with the addition of volumetric 3D elements to give it a very unique look. The presence of a vibrant color palette makes the trailer look very professional.

"Call Mojang and make their movie for them"

This comment is a dig at Warner Bros.' poor visuals and creative decisions as most fans did not like the trailer. Another user named u/NiftyF1 said that just by the looks, they can say that this fan project's story will be better than the official Minecraft movie. User u/sioscottecs23 said that this was better than the movie and made sure that everyone saw it by using large fonts.

Redditor u/Youforkinwatm8 said that it is unbelievable how a large, multi-billion dollar studio cannot make a good-looking movie but a fan with some free time can make something multiple times better. Another user named u/lollolcheese123 pointed out that the original poster certainly did not make the trailer in “some” free time.

User u/TwilightVulpine said that the animation was too good to be made quickly and must have taken a lot of time and effort to make it. They also mentioned that even after that, one would expect Warner Bros. to do at least something as good as this fan-made project. The original poster replied by saying that it did take them some time and the release just timed with the trailer's launch.

A lot of players got disappointed with the Minecraft movie's first look, especially since they had been waiting for a long time. Many fans pointed out how Jack Black does not look anything like Steve from the game. While he is wearing a bizarre blue sweater, his long beard and hair are just off-character as Steve has short hair and a goatee.
