Fan recreates Minecraft movie trailer with in-game graphics

The trailer for the Minecraft movie might not be what fans expected. But it certainly has spawned some interesting discussions and made many talented artists and players create their version of the trailer. Since a lot of players did not like the art style and the live-action approach taken by Warner Bros., fans are coming up with their versions of the movie trailer showing how whatever they come up with will be appreciated more by everyone compared to the official trailer.

A Minecraft player who goes by u/JustinisNotWeird on Reddit shared a video on the game's subreddit. It was a recreation of the recently released movie trailer but made with the original game’s graphics. The characters are still real people but instead of the overly saturated world of the official trailer, they replaced the game world with some shaders. And the results speak for themselves.

User Antimatter-1000 commented that the community is coming up with its version of the trailer, pointing out where it could be improved is both scary and heartwarming at the same time—scary as it shows how many obvious flaws the official trailer has.

u/netthead said that the idea of using the game’s loading screen as an intro to the trailer is very cool. The original poster replaced the portal intro from the official trailer by using the game’s load screen when someone starts a new world—which is quite interesting.

The complaints about the trailer did not stop there. User JevorTrilka commented that this looks so much better and hoped that the original poster edits the whole movie in this way when it is released.

User Offroad-guy12 asked why everyone could not get an animated movie. Since animation is more accessible now thanks to technology, they did not want a live-action Minecraft movie. User SanguinePutrefaction said that they began appreciating the Story Mode after seeing the trailer.

User _Levitated_Sheild_ pointed out that the rotoscoping done to make this trailer was impressive. Rotoscoping is when the background from a video is removed, isolating just one part from it. In this case, the characters had been removed from the original trailer.

Another user named GD_gaming_dude asked the OP to remove the part where Jack Black says “I am Steve," suggesting it would make everyone happy.

With the release of the official trailer for the Minecraft movie, the list of issues players had quickly grew. While many things raised an eyebrow, it was the look of the movie that made the most negative impact. The mobs have a semi-realistic look to them with realistic fur and teeth which puts them in the uncanny zone.

The movie releases on April 4, 2025, in the US.
