How to build a piano in Minecraft

A piano in Minecraft can be a great decoration for a wide variety of different builds, from classical homes to parlors in massive castles and mansions. Plus, with a few extra tweaks, you can even create a piano capable of playing music, either from key presses or simply by playing sounds with the assistance of a jukebox.

Since creating a piano with individual key press sounds can be a little complex and requires some redstone knowledge, it might be better to start off with the jukebox-based design in Minecraft. It's worth examining how to build this particular piano design before moving on to the more sophisticated redstone-centric ones.

How to build a basic jukebox-based piano design in Minecraft

Before getting started with this piano build in Minecraft, you'll need some materials. While you can mix and match resources depending on your personal preferences, the materials below should be enough to complete the piano as required:

18 building blocks
1 jukebox
1 lectern
1 book & quill
3 loom blocks
10 trapdoors
2 doors
1 slab

It's also recommended that your doors, trapdoors, slabs, and at least four of your building blocks be of the same wood type. Using different wood types may not be a great overall look for the piano.

Regardless, you can begin building your piano in Minecraft with the following steps:

Begin by building a wall that is three blocks high and five blocks wide. At the center of this wall, place a jukebox.
Place two two-block-tall columns to the sides of where the jukebox is placed. They should be flush with the wall.
Place the lectern block between the two columns and underneath where the jukebox is placed.
Place your book & quill on the lectern.
Take your three loom blocks and place them in a row in front of the lectern from left to right.
Place trapdoors on the ground in the front and on the sides of the loom blocks (but not on the corners) and activate them so that they are flush with the loom blocks.
Place two trapdoors on top of the left and right loom blocks and activate them so that they're flush with the columns you placed in Step 2.
Place your final three trapdoors together across the top of the piano and then a slab underneath the middle trapdoor.
Lastly, head to the sides of the two columns you placed in Step 2 and place doors there so that they're flush with the column to complete the piano's body. An easy way to do this is to stand as close to the columns as possible, look toward the ground while facing away from the columns, and place your doors right underneath your feet.

If the steps above are followed correctly, you should have a nicely made Minecraft piano body that you can play music out of. There should be a small gap behind the lectern book where you can place a music disc into the jukebox, creating the appearance of an automatic piano. You don't even have to learn which "keys" to press to enjoy a little music.
