How to clear chat in Minecraft

In Minecraft's single-player and multiplayer modes, you have the ability to type in a chat box. In single-player, the chat box can be used as a temporary notepad or for inputting commands if cheats are activated. In multiplayer, it is primarily used to communicate with other players on a server. However, in both cases the chat box can sometimes become too cluttered.

Hence, there is a method to clear the chat box in Minecraft. Note that you can only clear chat in the Java Edition.

As mentioned, when it comes to particuarly clearing chat, it can only be done on Minecraft's Java Edition.

To clear chat in Java, press the F3 and D keys simultaneously on the keyboard. This should be done when the your own chat box is not opened, otherwise you'll type "D" instead of clearing chat.

Once both the buttons are pressed simultaneously, all the chat will be cleared at once. This is the only method to clear chat in the sandbox game.

While you cannot clear chat in the Bedrock Edition, there is an easy way to simply mute the entire chat box. Muting essentially means you won't be able to see what is being typed on the chat box, either by you or by other players.

To do this in Bedrock Edition, open the chat box with the "T" or "/" keys. Once opened, press the setting gear button on the bottom left corner. This opens the chat settings, in which you can simply toggle on "Mute all chats." This will simply remove the chat box from popping up. You will not be able to see any information that comes up in chat until and unless you toggle the mute again.

Hiding chat is also possible in Minecraft's Java Edition. Head to the "Chat settings" from pause menu and change the first setting that simply says "Chat." Once you hide the chat, you won't be able to see any messages typed on it.
