How to flatten area in Minecraft using commands

One of the major reasons why Minecraft is so popular is that it allows you to make almost anything. Talented builders have made massive structures such as bridges, castles, cities, and even fictional countries to impress the game’s community. However, you might not know that many of these builds are done using some powerful commands.

Minecraft has a lot of commands that are crucial for building projects. One of these is the fill command. As the name suggests, it lets you fill out any area with anything in the game. You can specify the coordinates and get the desired results in seconds. Here’s everything about how you can use it to flatten areas in the game.

Before you get started with the whole process there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, using any command in Minecraft — including the fill command — will disable all the achievements as it is considered cheating. You can either create a new world or copy the existing world if you do not want to lose your advancements.

Secondly, you need to enable commands to use them. Follow these steps to get it done:

  • Launch the game and open the world in which you want to use the commands.
  • If you are starting a new world, make sure to check the “Enable Cheats” option.
  • For the already existing world, pause the game and select “Open to LAN”.
  • Here, toggle the “Allow Commands” to on and then click on “Start LAN world”.

Now you can use commands using the normal chatbox. Remember that a command starts with a forward slash (/), so make sure to use it before typing anything.

Using the fill command

After everything else is set, you can move to using the command. The /fill command allows you to fill any specified space with another in-game item. For example, you can select a 12x12 block area of dirt and replace it with water to make a pool. It is an incredibly powerful and useful command for building.

To flatten a particular area, all you need to do is fill the space with air. The command for this action would be:

  • /fill X Y Z air

Here, the X, Y, and Z specify the coordinates of the area. The “air” tells the game to replace the current items with air, which results in the area getting flat. Using this command, you can clear out small and large areas alike with no third-party services such as World Edit or Axiom.
