How to make a dance floor in Minecraft
Sometimes, Minecraft players need a little light to go with their more musical builds. Any good club or music venue can use a dance floor, and building one in Mojang's sandbox game isn't as difficult as you might think. With the right collection of blocks and a little knowledge of redstone, you can have your very own dance floor.
Building a simple automated dance floor doesn't take up much space and can be accomplished in a few short minutes. There are many designs, but this basic concept should be simple and quick for your convenience.
How to build a simple automated dance floor in Minecraft
Before getting started with this Minecraft dance floor build, you'll need a hefty collection of blocks. Effectively, all of these blocks interact with redstone signals in one manner or another and will interconnect to create a flashing dance floor with a defined pattern.
The materials you'll require for this dance floor are as follows:
- 72 observers
- 64 redstone lamps
- 76 redstone repeaters
- 5 redstone dust
- 1 button or redstone torch
With all of your materials collected, find a nice flat location where you'd like to build your dance floor. Keep in mind that there will be observers and redstone repeaters under the "floor," which is comprised of redstone lamps. For this reason, you may want to dig underground a bit if you want to place the floor without having all of its components exposed above the ground.
Whatever the case, you can construct the dance floor itself in Minecraft with the steps below:
- Begin by placing eight observers side by side in a line.
- Place a row of eight redstone repeaters in front of the observers. The redstone torches on the repeater blocks should be aligned away from the observers.
- Continue placing rows of repeaters this way until you have an 8x8 grid of the blocks facing away from the observers.
- Take your remaining observer blocks and place them on top of all the repeaters you placed in Steps 2-3. Ensure that the red lights of the observers are facing upward into the sky.
- Take your redstone lamps and place them on top of the observers placed in Step 4 to create the "floor" of your dance floor.
- Place a final row of redstone repeaters behind the observers you placed in Step 1. Ensure that these repeaters are running parallel to the observers and are all pointing in the same direction.
- Near the repeaters placed in Step 6, construct a redstone clock with your remaining four repeaters. This can be accomplished by placing the repeaters in a + formation, pointing to each other in a clockwise or counter-clockwise fashion, with one block of space between them and a block of space in the center. Ensure that all of these repeaters are interacted with three times to ensure they are set to a four-tick delay.
- Use redstone dust to connect all of the repeaters at the corners of the clock. Then, connect the remaining dust to link to the repeaters placed in Step 6.
- Lastly, place your redstone torch next to one of the pieces of redstone dust and then break it to activate the redstone clock. Alternatively, you can place a button, press it, and break it to achieve the same effect.
If all of these steps are performed correctly, the redstone signal from the button/redstone torch should repeatedly cycle through the clock and then fire through the connected repeaters. This will be recognized by the observer blocks, which will activate the redstone repeaters in front of them as well as the redstone lamps, creating a dance floor with a repeating light pattern in Minecraft.
