"It's so unsettling and scary": AI-generated Minecraft gameplay leaves fans creeped out
Minecraft is available on all major platforms and devices including consoles, PCs, Macs, and both Android and iOS devices. However, it seems that some developers are working on AI models that allow players to run the game even in computer browsers. Although it is not as refined as expected, Oasis AI is one such model that can do it.
An X user named u/phr3tt shared a short video on social media showing the gameplay for AI-generated Minecraft. For those unaware, Oasis AI recently announced a fully AI-generated game that players can try out. This game looks very similar to Mojang’s title.
The video shows the exploration of this AI-generated game. As the players move around, blocks and mobs start changing their shape, sometimes mushing into each other with no defined border. With eerie background music, the short clips look like something out of a nightmare.
Reacting to this video, user u/jungarbeeb said:
“This is giving me the chills. It's so unsettling and scary asf”
Another user named u/SAAA_T_ said that this scary AI video is almost like what humans see in their dreams. They joked that someone should wake these machines up.
User u/silenc306 deduced that the algorithm is training by looking at millions of Minecraft videos available, and eventually, it might generate a building inspired by the old YouTube series of some popular creator.
User u/A_d_n_R_d_i_g and u/Hex_Juice also resonated with the thought that it looked like something from a dream. u/Angerlica_Reed1, on the other hand, felt the only positive thing about it is how poorly the AI recreation is.
User u/dawsonhunt_ compared this instance to that of the infamous “Will Smith eating spaghetti”, citing that this is the worst the AI will ever be.
Can Minecraft run on browsers?
It might seem unreal but artificial intelligence is getting so better that they are able to run simple games just based on generative frameworks. This means that just like Midjourney or Dall-e can create images, some AI models can generate frames from a game based on the input given by the player. Some developers have created models to run Doom from 1993 and it has worked brilliantly.
As artificial intelligence advances and develops, it would be interesting to see what happens to the future of games, especially Minecraft. Currently, players can try the game on Oasis AI's official website.
