6 major features added to Minecraft in 2024

In 2024, Mojang released loads of new features for Minecraft, including one major update and three smaller game drops. In all these, they added various features, some more popular than others. Even though all these features were for the Overworld realm, they were hailed by many players.

Here is a list of the six biggest features added to Minecraft in 2024.

List of six major features that arrived in Minecraft in 2024

1) Wolf Armor

Wolf armor, which arrived with the Armored Paws update in late April, was one of the first major Minecraft features released in 2024. This was one of the first game drops that Mojang tested before officially announcing these smaller updates in September 2024.

Since wolves were one of the most popular pets in the game, many in the community felt the need to protect them from harm. Though the game had many mods that offered armor for the mob, Mojang finally added it as a vanilla feature. A wolf armor can be crafted by combining six armadillo scutes.

2) Trial Chamber

Trial Chamber is an underground structure that was released with Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials update on June 2024. It was one of the biggest features the game received this year since it brought loads of new building and functional blocks, new ways to fight hostile mobs, and blocks that give out rewards for taking the fight.

Trial chambers introduced new trial spawners that spawned mobs according to the player count. They also went into cooldown and dropped a special trial key, which can be used to unlock new trial vault blocks that reward players with valuable loot.

The structure itself was quite uniquely built, which made it fun to explore.

3) Breeze mob

Tricky Trial update also added a brand new hostile mob called Breeze that only spawned in the Trial Chamber structure. This creature looks similar to Blaze but deals damage through bursts of air called wind charges. Breeze can dash in all directions and can also jump high on platforms.

Trial Chambers have a dedicated area for Breeze where players need to fight it. Breeze drops breeze rods, which can be used to either create wind charges as projectiles, or a mace. Mace is a new hammer-like weapon that was added to the game with the update as well.

4) Bundles

Bundle is a feature that is the oldest one in this list, particularly when it comes to being announced by Mojang. The item was introduced by the developers back in 2020 when they were planning to release it with the Caves and Cliffs update. It went through several iterations but was never added with an update in the coming years. It remained a mystery as to when Mojang was going to release the item.

Finally, it was released in October 2024, with Bundles of Bravery drop, Mojang's first official Minecraft game drop. Bundles were a long-awaited and craved item since they allowed players to store a stack worth of items in it, which massively resolved the cluttered inventory issue.

5) Creaking

On December 3, 2024, Mojang released their last game drop of the year, named The Garden Awakens. This drop added the new Creaking mob and Pale Garden biome.

This was a unique hostile mob since it only hunted for players when they were not looking at it. Essentially, if the Creaking is not visible on any players' screens, it will start hunting them down. Another unique Creaking feature is that the mob's heart is a block placed inside a pale oak tree. Hence, it cannot be killed by directly attacking it with any weapon or explosive.

The only way to kill the Creaking is by destroying its heart block. However, players can also keep hitting the creature for its heart to secrete resin, a new resource, that will deposit on pale oak tree logs.

6) Pale Garden

Pale Garden is a new Overworld biome that was released with The Garden Awakens drop. It is a rare region that generates adjacent to Dark Oak Forest, which explains its visual similarity to the old biome. However, the striking difference between the two is that Pale Garden's trees, leaves, and even grass blocks are completely desaturated, giving the region an eerie look.

When players enter the biome, all the environment sounds and even the music stops and the sky turns pale. During the day, the desaturated forest is quite harmless, but the Creaking and other regular hostile mobs make it a tricky place at night.
