Mending vs infinity in Minecraft: Which enchantment should you use on your bow?

The bow is one of the most used ranged weapons in Minecraft. Players can use it to shoot arrows at hostile mobs from a distance and kill them with ease. The game also has enchantments that can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor part. And when it comes to equipping an enhancement for the bow, players usually fall into a dilemma of choosing between mending and infinity, since both of them are mutually exclusive.

While both are extremely useful and drastically improve a bow, the infinity enchantment is slightly better than mending on the weapon. Here's why.

Note: Parts of the article where the better enchantment is chosen are subjective and solely reflect the writer's opinion.

Looking at the positives and negatives of mending and infinity bow enchantments in Minecraft

Mending is one of the best enchantments in Minecraft. When it is applied to any gear, that item can automatically repair itself by absorbing XP orbs players pick up. Players must hold the gear in their hands for it to absorb XP points and repair itself. The durability bar that appears below each gear after being used can be filled up using mending.

This means that the enchantment makes any gear invincible, allowing players to use it infinitely.

Since players will use bows constantly during fights, they can break extremely quickly. If that bow has other strong enchantments, it will hurt even more when its durability runs out and it breaks. Hence, mending is a good enchantment to have on a bow. However, it is not the best one.

Infinity enchantment on bows

On the other hand, Infinity is a bow-exclusive enchantment that can make bows extremely overpowered and make a player's life in the game a lot easier. As the name of the powerup suggests, it can allow a bow to shoot an infinite number of arrows as long as the player has one arrow in their inventory. This means that there is no need to constantly make or find arrows to use in fights.

Even though infinity bows will break after a while, players can simply create another bow and put an infinity enchantment on it. To get an endless supply of any enchantment in the game, players can create a librarian trading hall, where each librarian offers different enchanted books. This way, players simply need to create a new bow and apply infinity enchantment on it to keep using it.

Infinity bows can also be enchanted with unbreaking and power enchantments, to further extend their lifespan and strength.

Conclusion

Both mending and infinity enchantments are great for a bow. Of course, a combination of them will be overpowered, but they are mutually exclusive in Minecraft.

With infinity, players will no longer need to craft arrows repeatedly, something that is much more tedious than crafting new bows once in a while. The method of employing a librarian villager offering infinity and other bow enchantments can essentially eliminate the need for mending altogether.

Hence, when it comes to picking one of them, infinity enchantment is better than mending.
