Minecraft Bedrock has been missing a useful movement effect for 6 years

Minecraft Bedrock has lacked a useful movement effect for a long time and players of this edition aren't happy about being excluded. The Bedrock and Java editions of the game are known to have a host of differences in features and effects, but the lack of Dolphin's Grace, a popular movement effect, has irked most gamers.

Read on to find out about the missing movement effect and if it might make its way to the Bedrock edition anytime soon.

What is the Dolphin's Grace movement effect in Minecraft?

Dolphin's Grace is a status effect that increases the player's swimming speed when a dolphin is within nine blocks. This effect causes the players to swim significantly faster and lose speed at a slower rate, making it a great effect for exploring water bodies efficiently.

Dolphin's Grace allows players to travel 9.8 m/s underwater without the assistance of the Depth Strider enchantment, essentially making the player swim faster than a boat. If this status effect is stacked with the enchantment, it allows players to travel at a much faster speed, adding 8.983 m/s per level, making it one of the fastest methods of aquatic travel in-game.

Players in Minecraft Java edition can further buff this speed if they use soul soil underwater or put on boots enchanted with soul speed. Similarly, if players have an invisibility effect or enchantment, the range of the status effect is significantly reduced based on the armor equipped by the player.

Why is the Dolphin's Grace not available in Minecraft Bedrock edition?

Mojang has issued no clarification as to why the Dolphin's Grace status effect hasn't been a part of the Bedrock edition but it can be chalked down to one of the many parity issues between the two editions. Interestingly, players in this edition receive similar effects as Java edition players but do not get the status effect tag displayed during gameplay.

Parity essentially refers to the issue where feature(s) exist only in one edition of Minecraft but not in the other, making them version exclusives. This also extends to the same features with different effects of parameters. The omission of Dolphin's Grace is likely due to this issue and Bedrock players will have to wait and see if and when this feature will be officially added in-game.

Many in-game features are missing from either edition or have different parameters or reactions. This has led to significant debate among players on which is the best version of Minecraft.

Mojang has not made any announcement about whether the Dolphin's Grace status effect will be made available in the Bedrock edition. Since it is a status effect and not a major gameplay mechanic, this might be rather low on the list of Mojang's priorities.

Bedrock edition players will have to keep an eye out for an official announcement or a beta and preview that might officially add this coveted feature to future editions of the massively popular sandbox game.
