Minecraft creaking and Pale Garden explained

Minecraft's Pale Garden biome and the creaking mob it can spawn will be coming in the next few months, according to the Live 2024 presentation. The two additions are part of an as-of-yet unnamed game drop by Mojang and will be introduced to Java Edition snapshots and Bedrock Edition previews ahead of the full release. This will likely happen some point after the Bundles of Bravery game drop.

Whatever the case, ahead of the official game drop (or at least the experimental snapshot/preview release), it's worth examining what is known so far about Minecraft's Pale Garden biome and creaking mob.

What's known about the Pale Garden biome and the creaking mob in Minecraft so far

Found in the Minecraft Overworld, the Pale Garden biome is comprised of pale oak trees and pale moss blocks that can be found hanging from them or covering the forest floor. Based on what Mojang has shown of the biome, no passive or standard animal mobs spawn here. However, ordinary hostile mobs can appear when the light level reaches zero, like in other biomes.

Additionally, the pale oak trees within the Pale Garden are capable of generating creaking heart blocks as part of their trunks. These blocks, when placed between two pale oak logs and aligned with them orientation-wise, will activate and spawn the creaking when night falls.

Other than these factoids, there isn't much that is known about the Pale Garden, but this will certainly change in the future.

The creaking

Spawned from creaking hearts within the Pale Garden biome at night, the creaking is Minecraft's latest hostile mob. The creature is highly resistant to damage and is capable of stalking players and approaching them while they aren't looking directly at it. However, once players lock their vision on it, it won't attempt to approach any further.

As previously noted, the creaking is highly resistant to damage, and based on its showcase during the Live 2024 event, the only way to destroy it is to destroy the creaking heart connected to it. Fortunately, striking the creaking will create spore-like particles that will reveal the location of the connected creaking heart, so players can hunt it down and break it.

The applications of the creaking including any item drops still haven't been revealed thus far. However, it's safe to say that this creepy new mob's details should emerge when the Pale Garden game drop arrives in snapshots and previews in the coming weeks.
