Minecraft creaking update: All you need to know

Minecraft will soon be getting the creaking update, which is also known as the Winter drop. It will bring loads of new features, like the new creaking mob, Pale Garden biome, and much more. Some of the new features were initially announced in September during Mojang Studios' annual live event. At the moment, the developers are working on the update and will release it in the coming months.

Here is everything to know about the creaking update for Minecraft.

The two biggest features coming to the new creaking update are the creaking mob itself and the Pale Garden biome. These two were the first to be revealed by Mojang in September 2024, and were the first to be released in the game's snapshot and beta/preview versions.

The creaking is a unique hostile mob that spawns in the new biome at night and hunts players down as long as they are not looking at it. This means that whenever it disappears from a player's screen, it will start walking towards them and attack.

Another unique feature of the creaking mob is that it cannot be killed by direct melee or ranged attacks. Instead, its heart is essentially a block that is outside its body in one of the pale oak trees. Players need to destroy that block in order to kill the new mob.

This brings us to the Pale Garden biome itself. It is an eerie Overworld biome that is filled with pale oak trees that look similar to dark oak. As soon as players enter the new biome, all other ambient sounds disappear and they only hear occasional wood creaking noises.

Even the sky desaturates when players are in the spooky biome. It does not pose any threat during the day, but several hostile mobs, including the Creaking, spawn at night.

The new biome also brings new building blocks with creaking updates. Pale Garden will generate new pale oak trees giving players a brand new wood type. The new pale oak wood set is white, while the log blocks have a darker bark exterior. They can be crafted like any other wood set and can be used as building blocks.

The biome also brings a brand new kind of building block — a new material called resin. When players hit the creaking mob, its heart block will secrete resin droplets on the surrounding pale oak logs. These droplets can be mined and collected as resin clumps. The resin clumps need to be smelted to form resin bricks, which can then be crafted into various new building blocks.

The resin blocks will be bright orange, giving players a unique building block to try.

When resin bricks are created after smelting resin clumps, they can also be used as a color to dye armor trim designs. Players can apply a bright orange color to any armor trim they wish to apply to one of the armor parts.

As soon as Mojang came up with the feature, many players were excited to see the new color, since it looked quite cool on various armor types, particularly netherite armor.
