Minecraft developer drops major hint about Illagers' future

Minecraft lead designer Jens 'Jeb' Bergensten recently dropped a major hint about the bright future of Illagers in the sandbox game. He teased that players will see more from the deadly group of hostile mobs in the future, which could mean anything from new mobs to new features related to Evokers, Vindicators, Ravagers, Pillagers, and more.

Here is everything to know about the recent hint dropped by Minecraft's senior developer on Illagers.

Mojang could soon release more features and mobs under the Illager category in Minecraft

Minecraft recently released a YouTube video where they talked about how they developed the Illagers like Evokers, Pillagers, Vindicators, and more. They shared how they came up with the name, the different types of Illagers, and how they would look like compared to peaceful villagers.

Mojang revealed that the idea of Illagers came to them when they were developing their new game, Minecraft Dungeons, where the main antagonists were various Illagers.

At the end of the video, all developers talked about what they liked about Illagers and how they brought dynamism to the world of Minecraft. At the very end, Jeb said that players can expect a lot from Illagers in the future of Minecraft.

This was the hint that was quite interesting since Illagers have not received any major update since their release in the 1.14 update. Moreover, Mojang has not yet introduced a new Illager mob to the game. Though they gave the player base a chance to add one with mob vote competition back in 2020, the community did not vote enough for it to be officially added to the game.

Hence, this hint from Jeb could mean a lot of things. First of all, it could mean that existing Illagers might receive new features that make them more interesting to interact with and fight against. The second speculation is that Mojang has a new official Illager mob in store for future Minecraft game drops.

Since several connections were found between Illagers, the new Creaking mob, and the new Pale Garden biome, Mojang could also release new features that officially confirm that connection.

In Java Edition, there is an unused Illager mob called Illusioner, which can use magic to trick and attack players. This mob does not spawn anywhere in a regular survival world. The latest hint from Jeb could also mean that Mojang is working on a new Illusioner and officially release it in the future.

Of course, it is worth mentioning that all the above-mentioned information is simply speculation. Mojang and Jeb have not yet confirmed anything about the specifics.
